Hi! I believe I have finally found the point at which crawlers become a tad too slow... which has gave me an itch to go fast.... I didn't really want a stock rtr truck... so I'm building my own... using parts from whatever I can salvage... I have everything but the front suspension and steering setup, and the body figured out... but I need some suggestions I found a rear suspension that's strong enough to meet my needs (Ofna Hyper 7 PBS), but I unfortunately will not be able to use the front (chassis issues plus my own stupid way of doing things). Since I'm building a 2wd, the front doesn't need to be driven, and probably won't need to be able to take as much abuse... I measured the width (from inner edge of hex to inner edge of hex) of the Hyper 7 rear end, and found it measured around 11" which is huge, but exactly what I want... My dillema is that I need a front IFS setup to match (as closely as possible) the Hyper 7 rear... meaning I need it to measure between 9.5-11" from hex to hex... and it has to steer. I have worked with a traxxas stampede suspension in the past, and I believe the durability would be fine... but how wide is it? and with wideners, could I come close to 11"? I also got to thinking about a Maxx front suspension... I know they're readily avalable, and can steer, but I've never worked with one... Can anyone tell me how wide the Maxx front ends are? What about wideners? Is there a widener available to give me around 11''? I plan to run 1/8 Buggy wheels and tires (It's what I've got...), but I'm unsure that I'll be able to adapt them to whatever front end I choose... is there a company making a wide array of adapters? Sorry for all the questions... as soon as I get a front suspension figured out, I'll start a build thread... Any suggestions for a Body thanks for looking -Greg

I know people have made custom buggies and trucks... it's nothing new... all I wanna know is options... How wide is a Maxx suspension stock, and how wide can I get it How wide is a Pede suspension stock, and how wide can I get it...

I'm doing the same build. Still gathering parts so I haven't gotten my track width nailed down, but I'm going for something that will fit under a Slash body. Stock Slash measures @ 11.6. I may end up building my own chassis from scratch so I can put the arms where I want/need them vs just going with whatever width the buggy chassis I'm using for parts is. I don't like wheel wideners on something that will become airborn. Pushing the wheels out in that way puts alot of stress on the carriers.

Thanks for the heads up on wideners... and I am building my own chassis... which is why I will not be able to use the stock Hyper 7 front end... the steering setup doesn't work with my chassis design, redesigning the steering would be impossible beacause of the way Ofna designed it... Plus, the factory Hyper 7 chassis has a slight "kick up" right before the front suspension is mounted... and when making my own chassis, i have no way to build this in... I've been searching... ALOT, but I still can't find the widths for these suspensions...

You might try Ofna'a website, they may have some specs. If you are building your own chassis, you should be able to "kick" the front end up. If its a flat aluminum chassis, bend it. If its a tube chassis, design it in.

thanks for that little bit of info warriorsimi... I'll go do a bit more research... It's really hard to find suspension widths online... even on a buggy/truggy/racing forum, all I find is kids that get an associated buggy for christmas... so of course there's no specs to really be found... eh... I guess I just have to buy a few cheap front suspensions and fab something up...

From what im ready your building your own chassis so any front end off a 1/10 truck will work.just make mountin points so that every thing turns out the same width as the rear if not a lil wider. I have seen a few builds using jato, rustler and such front ends.

I had a similar NEED FOR SPEED after crawling as well. I had a Cen Matrix (Nitro) laying around, and that was my starting point. IT is now a brushless conversion, and I added body posts and painted a SLASH body for it. It may sound odd, but I think that it looks pretty sweet. (I just finished painting about 10 minutes ago, and will mount the body and take pics tomorrow...I just want that paint to cure.) The Proline Badlands kinda finish the look. IT looks like a slightly large Slash. Now I can bash with the guys after crawling.

I love custom creations... it doesn't really matter what it is: crawler, basher, monster truck, drag car, etc... it's all sweet as long as it's mostly custom... People design and build crawlers to their own specs, I just think it's cool to see someone doing the same thing with an RC other than a crawler... just my opinion...
