Check this thread out. There's a bunch of discussion on gearing. Got My Slash Today!!! Do you have a temp gun? I usually determine gearing through motor temp. I try to keep the temperature around 130-150 degrees. If it creeps up near 150, I usually go down a few teeth to get the temp down.

6900 I think I'd start with a 15 tooth pinion temp gun ($20.00) will help a lot, you don't want to see abve 160 if you can help it. I personally try to stay below 130

Gear it as low as you can. Lot of amp draw with those 6900 and 7700's. The Slash is a porker so expect temps to be high on the motor and esc.

As long as you check your motor every few minutes and it doesn't get up above 175*-180* you're good to go. My Slash is equipped with a 3700kV motor, its decently fast for how I use it and the motor temps at about 170* after a full pack (about twenty minutes) of constant redlining it!

I had a 14 tooth pinion and 87 tooth spur with my 5700 motor and it would overheat. I now have a Novak 4.5 system in it with a 12t pinion and 90t spur, and the temps stay really low (no hotter than 130* with an outside temp of 70*+). With that motor I'd suggest getting a 90 tooth spur gear and a few pinions, like a 12/13/14/15/etc to fine tune it. A temp-gun is a good idea and reasonably cheap. Otherwise I've heard that if you can touch and hold your finger on the motor for 3 seconds or longer without burning it, you should be OK (but that's not as accurate, obviously).
