So we have a nice coating of ice on everything here in Jersey so I thought it would be fun to try out the slash.Well with my narrowed dirt hawgs I was gettin nowhere fast, anything more than 1/4 throttle sent the truck spinning, only fun for a few minutes. In my quest for traction I screwed a bunch of sheetmetal screws into the tires, this worked awesome for about 20 minutes and then all the screws starting flying out,I could hear them bouncing off the body!So then I built a set of snow chains, this took a few hours and they turned out awesome but they still didn't provide me with enough traction. So I had a thought, why doesn't someone produce a studded snow tire.I imagine an aggresive tread with metal studs molded into the rubber somehow.I know I would try a set!I have several frozen ponds on my property and would love to do some ice racing!

Try these:http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...I=L5DT9202&P=K drill the holes in the spikes out and insert sheetmetal screws. That's what I'm going to do to a set

Hello Made some for my Savage 4.6 some years ago. 3x13mm sheet metal screws, drilled 2,5mm hole in tyre from inside. Screwed in the screws, added rapid glue on inside - tightened screws. When dry I slightly bent the screws on the outside so that the hole in the tyre is visible and added another drop of rapid glue in the hols from outside. No problem with loosing studs even with the wheelspeed of the savage. Just made me some studded Geolanders (in same manner as above) for wintercrawling - a rock course is found on every streetcorner/parkinglot. Works amasingly good.

ding ding ding... we have a winner! That's how we made ice racing tires back in the good ol days. Buy a VW Rabbit for $200, spend a couple evenings putting screws through from the inside, then glue on some rubber sheet with a coat with silicone, then a tube. Great fun on frozen lakes. The trick is to only have a little of the screw showing through- if they are too long, they rip out or push down inside.
