| Plastic shocks?
So on my Wheely king and now my Rustler I have the problem of my shocks unscrewing themselves and opening up. All the shock fluid drains out and it makes a mess. The shocks work great, and I don't really want to spend the money buying aluminum ones, so I was wondering if any of you guys put thread locker on them? Or do I just need to deal with having to refill them when they come apart... |

I'd try wrapping plumbers P.T.F.E tape around the threads on the shock body and then reassembling them.

I do this right off the bat with any plastic capped shock.... Remember, once they pop, they will keep popping most of the time, they are cheap enough, put on a new set and tape the threads | |

Thanks for the tip, I am going to pick up some more oil and tape them off. If it happens again I will buy new caps.

If you're not planning on changing the oil anytime soon. CA glue works in a pinch, but lock tight works for me.

Also, make sure that you have no air in shock - this will also blow shock caps off. Also, if the piston goes all the way to top of shock body when in full compression, put piece of fuel tubing on outside shock shaft to prevent this from happening. On front of my slash I use 3mm piece for this. |

A zip tie around the shock cap is a quick easy fix as wheel.

Those are all really good ideas. I am going to refil mine and try the plumbers tape, and if it pops off again I will order new tops and glue them. Thanks for all the tips!!! |

Just get the aluminum shock caps. A huge improvement over the plastic ones I used to have on my Rustler before going big bores. Eric |

| For $7 a pair, a pretty good option. Only thing with mine, if I overtightened them even a little, the shock cap will cut into the rubber diaphram and I had a shock sieze because of it. had to replace the whole shock then. (either destroyed or deformed every piece of the shock, except the cap)

I just took a zip tie and ripped it tight around the shock cap on my slash and it seems to have done the trick. I spent a few hours yesterday TRYING to break it and pop the tops on the rear shocks and I couldnt.
