A new Mullit Machine - IROC

ok well couple of years ago i saw this camaro rc car online and absolutly fell in love with it. it was a car that KingCobra built. i always dreamed of building one like it but eventually the og ended up in my hands. i played with it, wrecked it, and rebuilt it. after multiple paint issues, many drivetrain/electronics issues, blood and sweet i sold if off to Mike(1BadJeepBruiser) to get back into crawling. i have missed it ever since. it was the coolest rc i ever had.

luckily i last week i started looking for another model body and found one on craigslist nib for $75. today i ordered the aluminum shocks, and a tamiya 1/14 truck axle(narrower than a tlt but same gears). i plan to pick up some old rc10 rpm front a-arms sitting at the local hobbyshop along with some other goodies.

the plan:

Body:
1/8 monogram iroc
cowl hood fabbed by me, little smoother than the original one
gunmetal paint with primered hood and all

Wheels:
modified traxxas rustler/pede original wheels
fronts will be super narrowed, and all will have custom rim
inserts made from styrene to match weld racing draglite rims

Drivetrain:
tamiya truck axle
axial trans
mamba 5700

i have learned a lot since i last took on this project so hopefully it will go much smoother. focus on this project it simplicity yet scaleness. i want to try and use the model chassis, reworked, strengthened, and styreneaized. it will have a fourlik rear end, with a rear back half subframe adddition. still got to figure out battery situation but full interior is a must and hopefully engine bay as well. stay tuned for more.....lots more

the original-credit goes to KC for this great setup.

ive followed this car for years

I am sure it will be sick. I picked up a Z28 myself to build a drag care with but have never got around to it.

anyone have any input on these tires?

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXNPS8&P=SM

i was planning on just getting some proline street tires but i found these. i would like to get some foams as well but i want some tires to just bash with and such. to start with

would like to pick up a set of these bad boys but there is no matching set of front wheels plus the axle uses a splined hex not a pinned hex

the new era are foam, so coat with a thin layer of permatex silicone. Smooth with a gloved finger rubbing it into the foam pores. (You need the hardening kind.) The traction is still decent and you don't have to worry about the foam drying and cracking. If you do burn through the silicone just recoat. It honestly works good. Donuts do wear through it, but driving an oval or fairly normal driving it lasts decent. "thumbsup"

Damn cool build though. "thumbsup"

well the parts are trickling in. i got my shocks in. probably going to swing by the hardware store and pick up some really stiff springs for them. well unfortunatly it is possibly looking like i may have been screwed out of the model. i knew i was taking a risk. i found it on craigslist and contacted the guy a few times about it. i got all of his info, name, address, phone #, and email addy. i sent him the funds and have talked to him since he got them to make sure they made it now he is getting difficult to contact. i am going to give him some more time but i just wanted to get the tracking #. everyone pray for me lol. i hope this guy turns out to be honest.

Looks great! Good custom build."thumbsup"

ok since it sounds like people are confused, this is a new build. starting over fresh.

so far everything is going smoothly. i got the rear axle mounts all fabbed up, along with the rear shock mounts. basically im just waiting on everything to get here now. i may go ahead a build the rear subframe it just depends on how impatient i get. i am expecting the tower order with my rims, and link material so i can at least work on the wheels. if i build the rear subframe i will build it completely with tracbars, and get it ready to just drop in. on to a few pics

ok well i got impatient so i went ahead and made the trackbars, and panhard bar mount. i am debating going ahead and building the the rear subframe but i want to get everything planned out first as far as the battery and drivetrain layout goes. what do you think? i am happy with the start, hopefully the whole build goes this smoothly.

ok well i didn't have to work today so i tinkered with the camaro. picked up some much stiffer springs from the hardware store. this car is going to be a pig so the poor little rc18 springs wern't gonna cut it.

i am very pleased with the build so far. it is turning out so much nice than the last time. i can see just how much i have learned since then. can't wait to get the actual model and continue the framework. thats it for now until more parts arrive. what does yous guys think?

Gula 04-22-2009 04:02 PM

I think you did a great job. Only think i foresee would be that all that weight may make it extremely difficult to slow down fast (in a emergency) Also since it's RWD and has no brakes up front, once you hit them it will most likely spin out, i dont think you want to risk that on a hard to find $75 body.

Just my .02

I'm making a 1:6 hard body drag car, but using a disconnected 4wd front end and replaceing the driveshaft with a disk brake.

Tupers 04-22-2009 04:16 PM

Wow this really is a truly awesome build, I can't wait to see it up and running.

The Real Dogman 04-23-2009 11:08 AM
