Default Motor overheat/ dead

I have 2 rustlers xl5 w/12t titan motors for playing around. (stock) I run a 6500 max amp lipo 7.4v batteries. I have checked the set-up between the pinion and spur everything is good. The entire drive train moves free. We can run them for about 15min and the motors are stupid hot. The temp today is about 80 degrees and my son and I were driving them for about 15 minutes his motor started making a clicking noise and died.

Does any one have any words of wisdom as to why they get so hot so quick? The dead part I know came from to much heat, but I can not figure out why they get so hot.

May be I should stick with crawlers never had a problem with them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

youre either geared too high, ot your brushes and comm are/were very dirty and worn causing alot of resistance.
