| You have much to learn, Grasshopper. Now with sand dune action!
Here's my re-re Grasshopper. Fully ball-raced, fun as heck, still have to put in the 540 I have for it. So it should be a little more fun. Nice boxart Nice packaging Put the wheels/tires together first. Its nice not to glue tires. Although, I did use some Tamiya threadlock on those little screws and nuts even though its not required. 3 Piece wheels are more realistic as well Notice I put the wheel in the upper right together backwards! The ridge on the hub should be in back! Glass of wine with the wife for Valentines while the gearbox went together Skip all the easy stuff. Here's the completed kit, unpainted. The little white plastic steering hubs were pre-assembled which I don't recall them being That little wire over the motor is the antenna from the Spektrum Rx. I wrapped it around the rear rollbar after it was painted. Painted, Tamiya TS-26 Pure White The driver figure has been painted but isn't installed as of these pics. Its been a blast so far. The local concrete skatepark is fun. It can jump spines and table tops with the best of them. It smacks pretty hard on landings and lost the battery door once, but its taken it all in stride. Once the warmer weather comes around it will be taking a few trips to the beach. Last edited by 860Crawler; 02-28-2009 at 03:53 PM. |

That thread pushed me to head over to the LHS on my lunchbreak. Picked up a RRP 18T pinion so I can fit the 540 when I get home from work!

If I get my way I'll have a GrassHopper by the weekend. LHS has them for $89, great deal considering there's a ESC with it. My First real R/C was a Hornet. But I want to try somthing a little different, I want to find a 80's-90's Nissan Truck Body and some differnet tires (simular to HotShot) to match the old Tyco 9.6 Baja Bandit from the late 80's early 90's. Both that and the grasshopper chassis is simular, single front A-Arm and solid rear axle. |

Its funny, it feel like its wicked fast even with the 380 in it after using the rock crawler for such a long time (still waiting on the right pinion for the 540). I'm still getting my speed legs back. I took it for a rip down the hallway of my apartment building and I lost control and slammed into an old lady's door. It stayed on it wheels and I got it back to my door and by the time I was coming back inside I could hear the old lady opening her door to see what was going on I used it for about 40 minutes yesterday just trying to kill the battery but the weather started doing some really wet snow outside so eventually I had to come in and clean and dry everything off. The battery still isn't dead yet, that little 380 takes so little power to run! Stangkilla is right about the front flips. I hit some odd bumps full speed and the back end flipped right up over the front and it slid on its roof! |

yeah, so the pinion came in and I installed the RS540SH that used to do duty in the CR-01. Its crazy for a car of this vintage. Ancient spring suspension bumping all over the place. Pavement burnouts are no problem. Sand burnouts, forget about it, it spins for days It borders on uncontrollable on bumps and can't turn on pavement with anything over half throttle or it rolls, but its fun as hell. Once I got everything situated with a fresh battery I was LOL when I finally put it on the ground and hit the throttle. I actually spun the pinion off after 5 minutes. I go in and take the motor off and there is no pinion there. I'm like great its going to be down inside the gearbox and I'll have to shake the thing like crazy to get it to fall out, but when I pull the gearbox cover off the opposite side of the motor the pinion is just sitting there stuck to the side with grease! I wish I could get a reading on how fast it actually is. With the 380 it couldn't have been more than 10-12mph. Now it easily chases cars up my street and its quiet too. The 380 sounded like a drill and this 540 is stealthy. |

Boy does that bring back memories! The Grasshopper was my first real R/C! I actually have it out in the hallway at the moment as I was going through my old tool/parts box and putting my 'hopper parts in it's (original) box. I've been half tempted to try to get the old thing up and running again... |

Just "restored" one myself. It was part of 3 moving boxes worth of R/C crap I was selling for a friend. It started life as a Hornet, but had a beat-to-hell McAllister lexan pickup body on it. I'm planning on giving it to the neighbor kid so I picked up the tougher ABS G'hopper body on eBay. The thing is probably 20 years old at least and it runs like a champ. Threw in some old electronics I had laying around and I've been taking it for test drives. Not sure I wanna give it to the kid now |
