| Check out this find, large scale gas RC boat
I bought this off craigslist a couple days ago. The guy didn't know what he had. I won't say exactly how much I bought it for but lets say it was less than $100. It has been sitting in a shed for the last 8 years. It's a Aeromarine Apache 56. 56" long, 15" wide, made for very rough water (think 2-3 ft waves) New these hulls sell for $375 Here's the motor. Anybody recognize it? it's a Quickdraw 35cc motor. a little old but new these things turn out close to 7-8 hp New, this motor was close to $800. not a bad find the motor has spark and good compression, I'm gonna clean the carb and put some new gas in it and see if it'll run |

Isn't there 8 mile lake or some name like that? I went camping there with my folks when I used to live in the springs. Pretty big from what I remember

I fired the motor up last friday it sounds MEAN!!! I'm gonna spend a couple days this week cleaning it up and getting it ready to hit the water. Quote:
11 mile reservoir is up here. It's pretty big but still gets packed on weekends. (plus it's ~1 hour away) Some days at the local lake there will be fisherman every 75 feet. When they are packed in that tight it's not even worth running. (there's a very small corner of the lake that RC's are even allowed to run)

Update: the best thing to clean RC fiberglass boat hulls is the spray citrus cleaner Here's the new and improved hull: i got new hardware for the motor and cleaned it up a bit: Steering linkage: New rudder setup: i also got the throttle cable and throttle servo installed. Tonight I'll mount the gas tank in front of the engine and run the cooling lines, then it should be ready to go!! |

agreed, gas is Fing awesome. no residue, awesome power, and cheap. i mean $3 in gas gets you like an hour of runing, and no down/charging time!

I really want a big gasser, it's just that big initial investment they often require...plus being close to a lake big enough to run one on without annoying people.

Well, I got it on the water last friday. it was quicker than my 45 mph Rio, but I don't know how much faster. Probably close to 50 mph and amazingly stable. Action Pics: And the vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ir24WuzDTzM I'll probably never drive it again. It's going up for sale later today. I have no need for more than one boat and this one is too big and will be too expensive to maintain. Last edited by engineerjoe; 09-28-2009 at 08:05 AM. |

don't know, I don't have a tach (it's on the list of stuff to buy when this sells). The prop was definitely holding it back, and I didn't want to put my blingin' (dasboata) prop on it. I love how this engine just idles around. huge amounts of torque at low/mid rpms.
