Talking My scorpion basher..."Crawler Snot"...

...'cause it looks like a crawler but it's SNOT...

Like so many other people, I drooled over the original Scorpion when it was featured in the off road mags. Then along came JIA's superb rc renditon, and soon to follow were the attack of the nylints.

Well, since I got a new emaxx basher (and since there's a gazillion 'maxxes out there that look almost exactly alike), I decided to build a scorpion cage/body for mine. I saw one like this a long time ago on this forum, but couldn't find it in a search ('puter is acting squirrely) so I just based mine loosely off the Scorpion MKIV.

The first pic is of the actual MKIV (I borrowed the image from http://www.scorpioncars.com , I hope you guys don't mind....kick as$ site BTW ), and the following two images are mine (of course).

I still have some other pieces to add: front/rear dropped hoops (light/winch guards), side uprights, rear braces and body panels. I was gonna wait until it was finished to post pics, but I got excited and in a hurry. Plus, I just ran out of brazing rod and flux, so I gotta get some more of that tomorrow. I think that after I add a set of Associated GT wheels, regular maxx-size swamp dawgs, panels, and relocate the antenna to the rear, I'll have it looking pretty close to the real thing.

On to the pics...

looks good rich..nice job.. your getting good at that tube work

I remember that scorp body your talking about. He had it hinged on the front and body clipped for the back to change batteries.. I remember it was on the "old" board though.Highly doubt it would show up on search.

Looks really cool man! I like the tube work. Are you planning all the panels like the real Scorpion or just a few?

It'll have all the same panels, but I'm not sure if I'll make the engine box on the hood or not...don't know yet. This was made to fit over the stock body mounts exactly, so I'll just pull off the body clips when I need to change batts...just like a regular body.

The dimensions aren't exactly perfect, and it's not exactly perfectly symmetrical either... ...I just changed a few dimensions to make it do what I wanted.

Thanks for the compliment, BTW.

Nah, I figured if you live in GA and use khaki to blend in with my desert, I'll paint mine OD to blend in when I'm in GA...

One more thing...

I also plan on trying to hook up some of those nylint headlights on it, if they'll fit inside the hoops I've made, that is. I'm gonna try and put the LED's in it like JIA did on his nylint. Then, I'll just have to find some taillights that fit

Of course, I'll have to get Mitch to wire 'em up for me (since I'd definitely screw it up... )

Plus, I can take it off sweet jumps! Once it's all completed, I'm gonna launch it off our loading dock at work. We've got an aluminum ramp so the fork trucks can get into the trailers, and I can probably get at least a 50' run at it... ...we'll see just how strong the solid 3/16" cage is...

Got the cage-work finished tonight. Maybe tomorrow I can get the body panel tabs brazed on, and then cut/paint/attach the panels.

Find a Nylint Scorp body and steal the hood! There is your box!

No more progress. The last thing I did to it, was finish the cage and beadblast it. It's actually up for sale right now in the FS forum...

And I have googled over that ad many a time..................just praying you would be willing to let the chassis go by itself. If I could figure out a way to return about 150 on all the other stuff, I would grab it right now.

hey i might just make a tuber body like yours but make it a baja. it will look cool on the rusty i am giving new life to. i had to buy/borrow a new chassis and front end from the LHS. it might be a little heavy but i am putting a brushless in or a 13turn in it. with the old motor i used to run it with would let it do moving wheelies which was awesome. my favorite thing to do was make it do a flip off one of those x factor ramps or make it luanch into orbit either way its fun.
