| Monster Beetle
Heard some folks at our last comp talking about their old Tamiyas. I recently sold of my entire collection of shelf queens. Except one. I had Blackfoot, Frog, Brat, Grasshopper, Mudblaster, Hornet, Midnight Pumpkin, Lunchbox, Super Champ, Rough Rider and a complete Sand Scorcher in parts in a box. Anywho, I thought I'd share my fave. Monster Beetle, built and ran once for 5-10 minutes. Has a crap load of aftermarket stuff. Thorp Dirt Burners axles, shafts, outdrives, trans gears and aluminum wheel hubs. CRP HD bearing holders, suspension arm holders and aluminum side guards. Duratrax? Aluminum shocks and bearings throughout. Enjoy.......................... |

Ive got one of those, still mint in box.I think the date printed on the side is 1986,i cant remember.I also have a mint in box Midnight Pumpkin from 1987.I take the lid off every now and then, thinking it would make agood scaler body. But i think im going to sell them cheap.I have seen them on Ebay for as much as $600.00,but i am going to let them go for way cheaper than that.A guy came into our LHS and asked me if i could sell them for him,I said sureand i bought them.I know to a vintage Tamiya collector, these things are rare.I have an original 1985 Tamiya Frog that i used to run,but it had to shelved due to being worn out.Ill post pics of the two MIB kits if anyone ask

That looks awsome. Love the double KC light setup. How did you do that? got any close up pics? My all time favorite is the sand scorcher (but have never owned one) The Monster Beetle is my second.... Got this one about a month ago as a replacement for my orignal one that was stolen back in 92. used 2 bodys to make one. (first pic is of the body that came with it) have the glass & tail lights, still need front end to finish it. Made some rear alum shock mounts. Going to make a new front mount as well. still need to find some dog bones, the hex ones are worn out. Want to get a set of berrings for the trans & wheels. & will either have to buy or make a rear bumper. Would love a set of the 50caliber alum rear arme to go with it. have a set of silver wheels that Im going to use on it though... |
