Default Beach Bashing

Headed to the beach in about 6 weeks. I wanna build something to play with. Any suggestions? Brushless + sand paddles seems to easy. What would make for a good time?

I have taken T-Maxx's and E-Maxx's to the beach they are a lot of fun while you are at the beach but once you come home, you will spend hours and hours cleaning them. I am still finding sand in my emaxx from 8 months ago. I have one emaxx that does not have SS screws and they will rust if you do not wash the salt water off right away. Sand gets into places you wouldnt think, such as sealed diffs and trannies. If I had to do it all over again I would just enjoy the beach without R/C's.

I agree, although this one has not seen sand yet. My previous one was a Rustler (with a JConcepts Bandit body) set up with the Sand paws on the rear, but truck size Mohawks on the front. Worked great, and that was on 6 cell NiMh with a 15 turn Vortex motor. The Bandit shown has a Turnigy (Hobby Wing) system in it. It is the one with the 380 core ( not a true 540 BL motor), but it will do wheel stands on 2S so should it should be plenty strong for beating around the beach! The only other thing I need to do it seal up the motor where the wires enter with a lil RTV.

Since the pics were taken, I did mount up a set of Alias front rib style tires.

The nice part is that there are no other mods. Just swap tires for sand / road / dirt.

Replying to this thread got me motivated enough to take her out and test her today. I would say that the 35AMP (well over 100 peak) rated Turnigy (Hobby Wing with a different sticker) and 3000 KV motor performed pretty darn well.

Perfect time to build a FOFF rig.

Here's mine with Swampers. I have Sand Paws for it too. I can't wait to get this thing in the sand. I've only had it in the yard twice so far... this weekend it will hit the beach

Any plans to protect the pinion/spur from sand?

Eventually.
I'm not sure the Axial spur cover will fit. It's on my list of things to buy for this rig. I want to build out a styrene interior for it.

Jasper, it appears that we all forgot the most important question. Are you planning on modifying something you already have (if so what vehicles are you considering) or are you planning to buy something to mod?

I have built a few tube framed sand rails and the best thing is leave the cover off so sand doesnt have a chance to collect in there.

I have a few Pede's. I figured one of those would be the easiest route. I started brazing some tubing and visions of stretched out sand rails were running through my head. The trip is approaching and I started ordering parts for the Pede. Not sure yet whether the Pede stays together or if parts start getting donated to the cause...

Playing in the sand is fun. Just be ready for the mass amount of cleqning that happens afterwards. My best advice is to go over the rig and if you think sqnd will get in, figure out how to keep it out.

I used to run a Bandit, but found it a little too light in the front end. Great fun for wheelies and straight line runs... but not so great if you want to steer.

I now have a Traxxas Slash with the same aftermarket brushless system...(Savoxx 4000kv 540 motor and a no-name speedie on 2cell or 3cell)

The chassis and suspension is completely stock apart from that... and I've never changed anything other than a pinion/spur.
I would recommend running 32pitch gears with no cover... 48pitch doesnt like sand much.
Its got Proline Sand Paws on the rear and (something I cant remember) on the front mounted on axial 8-hole beadlocks.

Goes like a rocket....
