Short Course noob questions

i love rc crawling and wont ditch it any time soon, but nearby there is an indoor track where they hold races every wednesday for short course trucks. i think it would be fun but dont want to spend $300 to try it and find out it's not for me.

here's what i do have though. can i make an OK into to short course truck with these?:

i know the ta-02 isn't even in the same league as say the sc10 or flash, but i just kinda want to ease myself into it and see how i like it. will this motor/esc be overkill for the ta-02?
