slash shock cap problems

i took my slash out today to a bmx track to beat on it and it held up very well except the shock caps kept popping off, now i know most people say to put the traxxas big bore caps on it but wouldn't that strip the threads on the shock or no?

No. My understanding of what happens is the stock plastic shock cap deforms allowing it to separate from the shock body. It isn't the threads stripping. Aluminum shock caps solve that problem. Another solution is to run a zip tie around the shock cap.

The aluminum bodied "Big Bores" have a very slightly different thread pitch than the stock black bodied plastic shocks. But if your careful you can get them threaded on, or at least I managed too. I think that the newer gray bodied shocks have the same thread pitch as the aluminum version, but don't quote me on that part.

But you must use Teflon tape on the threads to make them seal.

Another cheap trick is to put small hoseclamps around the cap. Sounds weird, but works just fine.
