Ittybitty's EAST COAST RC Axial EXO Buid

I couldn't resist getting one of these rigs. I've never had an electric, or gas for that matter, "go fast" rig so this is a huge learning curve for me...at least with the electronics. We finally got these in stock last week and filled some backorders...then started on my build! This rig will be built using parts available through our store at East Coast RC, ecrchobbies, RC Rock Crawlers.

Equipment:

Tekin 3300kv Pro4 Motor
Castle Creations Mamba Max Pro ESC
Sky Lipo 5000mah 3S 40C LiPo
Hitec 7950TH Servo

15/52 Gearing - Until I figure out it needs to be different this is what I plan on running based on talking to people who are a little more familiar with go fast rigs...

I'm currently waiting on some other goodies to test out on this rig before I finish it up and take it out to run hard.

I'm running 52/16 with my 4000kv pro4.

Now go scratch yours up already!

I love how smooth the Pro4 power is.

I can't wait to let her rip...as was pointed out...my tires aren't glued on yet, plus I have a lot of other work to do before I can spend anytime "playing" with this rig

Videos uploading... I had an issue the first time I took my buggy out with both of the dog bones on the "passenger" side breaking one side of one of the pins and popping out of the drive cups. The rear one ate up the drive cup too  I got some replacements today and installed two o-rings in the diff side of the rear axles and one o-ring in the diff side of the front axles. This really seemed to keep everything in place a lot better today.

I also pulled a smart one and try to use the plastic servo horn for the Hitec servo that came in the kit. Needless to say it's stripped and I forgot about it before I took it out today so I ended up putting a small piece of plastic in between the servo horn and the servo output and putting it back together. This held up for the run time I put on it today. I've got a Robitronic arm sitting here waiting to go on it so I won't have that problem anymore "thumbsup"

Did you monitor your temps? Just curious with the interior in.

ittybitty 03-17-2012 12:27 PM

Re: Ittybitty's EAST COAST RC Axial EXO Buid

Nope...I don't even own a temp gun  When I'd bring it in and sit it on the table the fan on the ESC would only run for a few moments then shut off so I wouldn't imagine the motor is getting too hot. I'd hate to run it in that sand without something like the interior installed...that stuff gets EVERYWHERE

chicklet 03-17-2012 12:49 PM

Re: Ittybitty's EAST COAST RC Axial EXO Buid

Yeah there is a fine line with heat and the interior. I don't run mine through sand so no interior for me. BUT I haven't experienced any high temps with my RX8 ESC or Pro4 4000kv motor. I haven't even noticed the esc fan running yet.

Ive got a 2s pack coming to try out. Its a lot of fun on 3s but definitely not necessary

Soulo747 03-17-2012 05:19 PM

No interior for me. The electronics are already a pain in the ass to get too without it

Yep...2s is plenty. I bought a 2s 6000mAh hardcase saddle pack from gens ace and love it! It fits perfect and doesn't bounce around. Way too much fun!

Soulo747 03-17-2012 06:16 PM

I'd like to see someone (preferably Vanquish) come out with a nice spur cover so I can run in sand with no interior.... Hint hint.

I thought 32p gears can hold up in sandy conditions without covers?
Atleast my slash did last summer.

But even if you do close up the spur gear and such...I still have a FAN on top of the ESC and there are typically holes in the motor. The fine silt thats mixed with the sand would wreak havoc on those parts

This buggy is a blast to drive, but due to finding out that the local track isn't being maintained anymore, and the lack of time to get out and really enjoy it...IT'S UP FOR SALE!!!!!!
