Default Szczerba's DRX VE Demon Rally

Picked up a Kyosho DRX VE Demon Rally yesterday.

Bone stock except for the rear arm guards I made up real quick.
Extra spider diff gears on order. Only come with 2 spiders in each diff.
When those come in, I'll put some diff fluid in all three diffs.

Car seems pretty solid except for the front steering drag links. Most of the car is plastic but upgrade parts are pretty easy to get. I busted the front grill area after about 10 minutes of driving. The body does seem a little brittle. The sealed in light buckets up front are pretty cool though.

Drilled a couple holes in the dust shield to secure it to the chassis. Not secured for some reason and dirt/rocks easily get in but it's an easy fix.
Another area that will need a metal shield is the relief cut for the spur gear on the bottom of the chassis.

I ran two 3300 30c 11.1v packs through this for about 15 minutes each and the motor was barely warm. Motor is senorless so the start up isn't the best.

I have had alot of RC's over the years and this is funniest one I have drove out of the box. It handles pretty good for bashing in stock form.

Couple short videos uploading.

Specs from website.

Length-563mm
Width-260mm
Height-187mm
Wheelbase-316mm
Tread (F/R)-215mm/215mm
Tire(F/R)-Φ93×38mm / Φ93×38mm
Gear Ratio-8.86:1
Weight-2,600g approx.
Motor-Team Orion R10 EVO, KV2400 sensorless brushless
ESC-Vortex R10 Sports

Next to the 1.55 F-Toy in the last couple pictures.

Couple videos running around the yard. Battery was fading by the time I took these videos. Car handles pretty good at full speed!

Running a 11.1v 3300mah 30C lipo. And looking at the last video, it looks like I busted the rear wing too.

That is an awesome yard for running rally cars! Sweet buggy too...what wheels and tires are those?? I've never seen them and they look perfect for it.

Yea. I plan on getting a dozer in the other part of the yard to build a small track for the DRX.

1.55" Stompers on 1.55" Void's. Leaf'd F-Toy that is a blast to drive too.

I love that build. I look at it every now and then, it makes me want to build an F-toy.

Demon looks great too, I love that body.

Thanks. the F-Toy was a challenge to build and is great to drive with the 1.55's on there.

I ordered up a Lancer body to redeem my free paint job from BC Paints in Canada. Going with a volkswagen on road racing them. Should look awesome.
All the other bodies have that hatchback look so I figured I would go with the Lancer.

I have the HWY 246 steering rack on the way. Sway bars on the bench, 3k, 5k, 7k diff fluild on the bench, Aluminum turnbuckles on the bench. MP9 body on the way to see if it offers better dust protection. 12-14 pinions. Etc, Etc.

I absolutely love driving this car. It handles great out of the box. No breakage so far other than the front grill on the body. I run it full speed for a 3300 11.1v every night.

Will get these installed this weekend.

246 Steering Rack - requires a servo move and battery mount trimming.
Sway bars, not sure if I'll put these on or not just yet.
Traxxas Turn Buckles (Stolen from cpb27's DRX thread) All come with Jato's so you have to swap out to Revo rod ends.
--Traxxas Aluminum Turnbuckle Set Blue - TRA3741A-This includes two 39mm and two 49mm camber links. The 39's are used on the front steering links, and the 49's are used in the rear.
--Traxxas Turnbuckle Blue - TRA3737A- This is used to connect the servo arm and steering assembly.
Additional Differential gears to add to front, center and rear diffs.
Couple choices for Diff fluid via Turtle's suggestions of 7-3-5 for front-center-rear.
I have been running this car for a while bone stock and the grease is wearing thin in the diffs. All the diffs spin freely and drives pretty good if you are bashing around but it breaks looks a little too much.
12-14 pinions
Value Hobby 5000mah 11.1 hard case lipo

Last picture is my build helper/parts snatcher for the weekend. . He snatched the pinions when I let him sniff the box of parts.

The MP9 body is too wide in the center but I might be able to make it work for a better than stock dust sheild.

Also, a Lancer body is on its way to bcpaints for a custom paint job.

More pictures and upgrade tech for the DRX.

Added 2 additional spider gears to each diff. Diff gear kit didn't come with cross pins. I had some 5/32" wire in the shop and it worked out perfect diameter.
7k-3k-5k (Front-Center-Rear)
Upgraded the turnbuckles
Got the Steering rack put in and servo relocated
Made two extra underbody-steering area guards (will be converting to MP9 side trays and inner body soon.
Converted battery tray to use straps

Raining today so no test runs right now.
Work bench panorama pic too

Looking good Your servo location is a lot better than mine. Excited to see your Lancer body and how you do the MP9 inner body.

The stock servo saver is on the right. The Route 246 saver is in the left. I have one on the way. There is no way to put on the right side?

I could have not shaved as much from the battery tray but it worked out ok.
Lancer body is at the BC Paint shop right now. We've got a theme worked out and Ryan will paint it up in 2-3 weeks

You know I thought of that after I had finished up the rack today. The rack posts are the same. I was just looking at the other DRX VE setups. So I am not sure if it will work in the stock location or not. And I am not sure if the Route 246 two servo saver arms will mount 180 dregs from each other like the stock setup. It's made for the nitro version servo location.

Thanks. Not after today's run! 45 minutes of driving and probably 4 hours of clean up. Car gained about 5lbs.

5000mah lasted about 25mins of full throttle running, like the video. Motor was barely warm.

Running 7k up front, 3k in the center and 5k out back. Makes the front pull pretty hard but the rear will break loose pretty quick. Works out good on slick dirt/grass.

I have access to the local airport and they just laid a new helipad with and alot of new asphalt around it. Rained 0.75" inches last night too.
Made for an awesome time on the asphalt with the transition to mud.
And we were shooting skeet in between rally sessions.

Nope. But I'll bring the 16 gauge to the next comp and you can get a 5 second head start with YOUR R/C.

Forsure not a pavement princess now. Mudd really sticks to this car like a magnet. The DRX and DBX share nitro chassis. I ordered a DBX body as I do not have the side guards. Hopefully Thursday It arrives.
Car Looks Awsome Did you use chassis protector? How is your spur?

Stuff was getting into the spur gear area but I just kept hammering down. No signs of damage.

Awesome on the DBX body. I had no idea. Looks like it will work good. I will order one up. Hopefully it will fit with the big 5000mah lipo I run.
I was going to go the mp9 side guard and body route but this DBX may be better.

I shop at Amain. The DRX parts page is always out of parts. The DBX page which shares alot of the same parts has in stock. Like diff gears. Always out of stock. The DBX page right there the whole time.
