Default Project Monster Truck Resurrection

Im sure some of you have seen the monster scx10/ ax10 that i had last year. if you havent you can check out my wroncho build thread.

When i originally built the truck i couldnt decide how i wanted the truck. after eventually getting rid of the original truck, except the shocks, i started to wish i hadnt gotten rid of it.

fast forward to a little over a month ago. i picked up a clod. while building the clod it gave me the desire to rebuild the truck that i missed so much.

so i took apart my scx10 chassis that i couldnt decide if i wanted to do a 1.55 build or a 1.9. i also picked up a new axle ax10 scorpion that the lhs had listed for $350, it had a futaba 2pl. i talked to someone who worked there and they talked to the manager to see if they would take $200 for it without the tx and rx. they did! also before i even left the lhs i sold the wheels and tires for $20.
scx10 chassis

new ax10

chassis is together. it has 1.55 stamped rc4wd wheels and 1.55 dirt grabbers for now until i get 2.2 wheels and tires

in front of clod. when i mount the body and 2.2 wheels and tires it should be about the same size as the clod.

i will keep the body a secret for now until it gets here. the seller said they will ship it tomorrow morning, its going from ohio to eastern pa. im sure most of you have seen or own the body this will get, but i havent seen one as tall as this.

the only hint im giving for now is that it was in the for sale section a few weeks ago

i set the body on the chassis..... it looks like i will need to adjust the wheel base, and it desperately needs bigger tires.

the body is already taken completely apart.

it may not "scale" enough.....

i fixed a small spot in the interior that had been broken, and painted most it with rustoleum sandable primer. the dash still needs painted. i also drilled the front light buckets to hold 5mm leds

its ok. it was a very small part behind the back seat on the passenger side. it only took about 5 minutes to fix that, most of that was getting the clamps on it to hold it.

the interior is painted grey with rustoleum filler primer. im not a big fan of this brand of filler primer, duplicolor is much nicer. i will try and prime the body with duplicolor filler primer before work.

i havent decided if i want to keep the bumpers and side steps on it yet or do something with them. any thaughts?

i trimmed part of the interior and dash so the body could sit flat. the front bumper has been cut off and the rear bumper will follow. also i got the body mostly in primer, the rear end still needs another coat or 2. once the primer dries i will start on the body work.

interior pics

i may not be going 2.2 on this. i found a video in the clod section of the forum that shows you how to use split six beadlocks on clod tires.

ill try and get a pic of how it could look, and how tall later on today using my stock clod wheels.

also i started figuring out were to mount the electronics and how im going to run the wires for the rear leds that go in the chassis, if i use them.

Hoosierdady was asking me how you could run short course wheels on a clod tire. CM_113 posted a youtube video on it in the clod section

link to post:
New Rims for a Clod

i tried to line up my stock clod wheels to the jk just to see how it would look. i know the tires are on the wrong way, and the wheelbase needs stretched.

height of the truck. it is on a bed, and being measured with a measuring tape so it may not be completely accurate. the tires are 6 inches tall.

i also started on a mount for the body/ interior. its not finished in the pic, i added pieces to mount to the chassis using 2 screws and 2 nuts on each side. there is also enough room to get an axial 2mm hex driver in there to undo the screws that hold the interior to the piece of styrene. i will post an updated pic when the primer dries.

i got the interior/ rear body mount done, even though its in the middle of the chassis. it doesnt look pretty but it works good enough for now.

i set the body on top and lined it up to see how much i need to adjust the wheel base. id like to get the wheels and tires finished and mounted before changing it, just to make it easier

just so everyone knows what a proline split six beadlock looks like. the beadlock ring may a different color.

i have an idea were to mount the battery. i want to see how it will look before i post it though. i got the idea from some wagons, suvs and 1987-1993 mustangs.

not much of an update. ive been focusing on other builds lately but i figured out were the battery will go.

im either going to have to drill 3 holes in the interior for the battery wires or run them underneath. if i run them underneath i may try and make a fuel cell. i know its far back but im trying to leave the front end open for leds and controller.
