As a complete newb to this, I can't seem to grasp all the info I need from the various threads on these things. Firstly, should you lock the diff on a sand rail? With a brushless motor, do you have to get a new ESC, LiPo, and electronics? I'll have more Q's in the morning. Cheers 8-)

The Mamba maxx will control both brushed and brushless motors too. I would keep the diff open unless you are doing dune climbing.

I run the Novak SS5800 in my Sandrail, you have to have a brushless compatible ESC for a brushless motor. Listen to JRH on the Brushless stuff, he knows what he is talking about. I have an open diff. Don't go locked you don't need it. I also run either 3000 or 3300's in mine. Last edited by TMXONR; 09-29-2006 at 10:02 PM.

John recommended the Mamba Maxx to me,I'm glad I went with it. It's a kicka$$ ESC. I've run both brushed and brushless motors on it and it's great. The programming aspect of it is awesome, you can fine tune any aspect of your powerplant and make it perform the way you want. I like it best though cause it plays a little song for you when you turn it on. | |

Turn the Brushless esc on with out a motor pluged in. Then do it with a motor pluged in. The noises are the ESC sending pulses to the windings when it is setting up.

My mind is made up, dumbass. The ESC sends pulses to the windings which make noise. Its the windings making the noises when they get the signal.

Nope,it may send a signal to the windings but the windings don't actually make the noise. If the windings are making the noise....my motor has learned how to be a ventriloquist. The noise is coming from the front of the rig but the motors is towards the back | |

Maybe it is different on the Mamba. Did you try unpluging the motor and seeing if it still makes the noise. I was always told that it is the windings of the motor that makes the noise. Here are two videos I just made explaining my point, one is with motor pluged in, the other is with it unpluged. Motor pluged in Motor unpluged

The noise is the ESC activating itself ,after it's made the connection with the motor. I guess your gonna say that the TQ3 throttle spring makes a noise after you turn on the TQ3 also

Then why does it make the same noise when I turn on the TQ3?

Because like you said its activating its self, but the sound is still coming from the motor.

What about the middle ground? Maybe both of you are just hearing things?

It should sice the ESC is sending the pulses to cause the sound in the windings. Maybe JRH will chime in when he gets on.
