I've been lurking around for a bit so I fugured I'd post up the latest project I've been working on. I'm doing a restore/restomod on a Kyosho Outlaw Ultima truck, which I once had as a teenager. It's 2wd and based off of the Kyosho Ultima series which included buggies, on road cars and trucks. Here's a pic of what the original box would have looked like(which I don't have) http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2865/9...2001a48a_o.jpg Here's an ad I found on you tube for this truck, @:58 sec https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrcdKSPC7XI I also happened to be on the web searching for more info on older desert trucks and I came across Kyosho's inspiration for this truck. Seems like it's a pretty close replica to Robby Gordon's desert truck from 1989. Here's a pic I found off the web, not to much info out there about it though. http://themint400.com/wp-content/upl...9-mint-400.jpg So I found a roller on ebay for a reasonable price and this is what I got to start the project with: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7332/9...d36f5f85_c.jpg It was pretty dirty but seemed to be pretty complete. So I stripped it down completely and gave it a good cleaning. To my surprise it looked like it was only used a few times and then put up. Here's what it came out like after a good cleaning and reassembly. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2805/9...4dcaf384_b.jpg I found that Team Blue Groove makes repro bodies for the Outlaw Ultima/Rampage so I ordered one up. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7336/9...2ce360dc_b.jpg Trying on a set of HPI wheels and some shock covers I was saving. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7282/9...db64ddb4_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7321/9...f9f817d1_b.jpg I also found a company on ebay the makes repo Outlaw Rampage stickers which are almost identical except for a few minor color differences. Here's where I'm at now after painting the body and applying some of the decals. http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3683/9...bbe1d35e_c.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5516/9...ea66d82f_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7392/9...f840bbd1_b.jpg |
Re: Kyosho Outlaw Ultima Looking good. I had a Kyosho Ultima II, which was the same suspension, chassis, and drivetrain. At one point in time, Kyosho made a trans upgrade, that utilized the Triumph or Triumph II belt drive transmission. I installed one on my Ultima and it was a HUGE improvement. Slipper clutch and bolted right in place. My Ultima II used to keep up with the RC-10 Gold Pans, after some Kyosho Gold shocks and a cheater 240ST motor that had the comm clocked. But I don't know anything about that. Keep the pics coming. |
Re: Kyosho Outlaw Ultima Will be watching this! I hade a Kyosho Optima which I could never get working correctly. (but I was a little guy back then) |

Re: Kyosho Outlaw Ultima I believe those are RPM Revolvers... Strong, light, and inexpensive - they do not make beadlocks however. Glue-on only. |
