| Looking for something to tear up the dunes
Been enjoying my Rubicon Crawler, now looking for a something to tear up some sand. Can't decide on a MT, Buggy, or Truggy... Definitely want electric; I have a nitro Savage and want to get away from nitro. (Although I enjoyed the heck out of it!) If money was no object, I might go for an E Maxx, but I also think something with lower COG would be fun. Want to go 1/8 or 1/10. Probably the latter for cost and selection. Considering Rustler, Bandit, Slash, Stampede - not married to Traxxas but these seem to have good bang for buck. Probably leaning most toward a Rustler currently. Also on the fence over 2wd for 4wd. I know; different apps, but I'll probably bash in different environments. Not competing, just bashing with the kids. Sand is a priority though! Thoughts? Thanks! |

From what I've seen of it, how about a Yeti with paddles. |

Don't laugh... Losi Mini-T Brushless 3S with: You will have a blast, these little bastards fly on the sand and when you take a tumble it's so light nothing breaks. |

I'm sure I'd have fun with the mini t - but think I want to go bigger this time. The Yeti looks awesome, but probably need to find something on the used market to meet my dollar and performance criteria. Thanks for the input!

My exo is a fawking blast in the sand. Locked center diff and 10k fluid in the front and rear diffs with paddles in almost too much fun.

Yeah - that sounds like fun! May be just a matter of what I find the best deal on first!

A 25+mph wraith is an absolute riot in my local sand pit. Puts a big grin on my faces for hours. Hill shooting 100 foot banks of loose sand is awesome. |

I just got a custom sand rail made with 2wd slash parts and a tube chassis. It is so much fun at the beach running 3s 5000 on a vxl system. Makes a few people mad on occasion but I really don't care. Lol most people like it and stand and watch or ask questions. Its mostly the girls that load up on oil and lay in the sun that don't care for it that much. Something about sand flying 20 feet behind it as its going 50 mph across the sand. I dunno lol

Beetle looks cool too! Just watched a quick bid. How's durability and part availability/compatibility?

Was it this one, cause this ones good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgVEbdQ_Hn4 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Yeah, well I don't have one but parts seem to be fairly available from the manufacturer, see here: Carisma Tonnes of parts ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Durability Wise? Dunno. From the vid I linked it seems pretty good but I'm not sure how long they tested it. 'Durability Spec Wise' it sounds pretty good with metal chassis and metal shocks but really, who knows, it could be proper metal, but it could be as strong as a Cola can.... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Trillo | |

Well folks - thanks for all the input. I've decided the proper course of action is to get one of each (in my dreams). So I stopped by the LHS today and picked up a Rustler VXL to get started. And some paddle tires for the back. Thing is stupid fast. I really need to learn how to drive now. First time I set it in the street for a test run, I went too hard on the throttle and flipped it right over and scuffed the top! While I'm in RC mode again, I widened the stance on my Rubicon and mounted the battery lower for lower COG. Ready to crawl on and tear up the beaches this summer! |

Remember to clean out the sand after you run on the beach. I just blow mine off with compressed air and it seems to be working OK. Getting sand in bearings and gears doesnt end well.

I've got a Lunchbox sitting on Panther ribs and paddles. Best truck for the job? Probably not not for most folks. But Lunchies are more fun than should be allowed.
