While I'm not too sure on how much I like the rear motor set up, that looks like it could be fun and an excellent trail companion to the Tellurides a few of us have built!

The kit goes for around $140 at Tower, but is currently backordered.............I just hope the Jimny and the 3 General Lee kits I ordered (2 1/25 Snap and a 1/16 glue) don't all shownat the same time!

I showed a picture of this thing to a customer at work today as well as Tamiya's toy show video of a couple runnjng to my Sister yesterday.............the customer wants to see mine when it's built because he may buy one and my Sister thinks it might make a good starter car for her friend's 4 year old......

I haven't built a tamiya kit in years, it's going together well so far. A few observations:
I could imagine this would be a tough build for a young one, instructions are more confusing than I remember.
The shocks are pathetic, even worse than the old non oil damped
For Christ's sake how much more money would it cost to throw some metal bushings in the kit?
Fit and finish is supurb, very impressed by the finish on the screws- they gleam like a 50's S&W revolver.
Wheels and tires are not mini size rally. This chassis is crying for some m chassis wheels/tires and a 959 body
Despite the fact that bearings and oil filled shocks are almost a necessity, I still feel this is a good value for the price. You could be on the road for under $200 easily
Use caution when threading screws into the more flexible black plastic parts, the grey parts are much easier to judge proper torque. Remember: tighten the screw until it strips, then slowly back it off 1/4 turn

I may do like I did my M03, get a full set of bearings (probably the Traxxas ones since they're cheap and sealed) then replace all the phillips hardware with Dubro allen hardware. I'll probably look at the Tamiya red anodized aluminum sedan shocks too, got those on my M03 since the blue mini ones weren't available then and then build them for the additional Sedan length instead or short for the M-Chassis machines.

From what I can tell, yes. They look like their VW Golf V5 rims and the tires are the 1.9" Rally Block. I am kiinda curious as to how well the RC4wd Landies and Micky Thompson MTZ's will fit it, especially after using the sedan shocks I mentioned, The MickyT's are 3.3" tall and would add some much needed ground clearance. I'm also debating about pulling the kit ESC, since it does brushed and sensored brushless(!!!!!!!!) for my M03 then throwing one of the new finless Traxxas XL5 ESC's into it instead.

Mine isn't coming home just yet, with all that had been going on with Mom and all of the related driving time and costs, I ended up borrowing a couple hundered from Dad to pay my car insurance for the next 6 months, so it will get layawayed to pay it off, and of course, the General Lee models I ordered all came in around the same time too.............

I just ordered one of these too. Awesome little truck, too bad they don't sell them in the US. Had a chance to drive one as a rental in Iceland. They ride pretty good with coils instead of the leaf springs on the old samurai's.
