| Tamiya TA01/TA02 79 F150 Trail Truck
I decided to try and use up some parts I had laying around and convert and older Tamiya TA01/TA02 into a trail rig. I'm using an HPI 79 Ford F150 body as the basis for the wheel base. So I took some measurements and extend the rear of the chassis with some flat aluminum. Trying on the body and wheels after extending the chassis: Mocking up some Proline bumpers I had laying around and an RC4WD light rack: Then I started playing with the body mounts and ride height. I also was playing around with a lexan underpan in an effort to conceal some of the chassis, not sure yet if I will use it or not: |

Made up the front bumper mount and body post/mount from some old Traxxas parts I had in the bin: Also put some paint down on the the body, need to finish trimming and apply decals: |

Shouldn't this be in one of the scale sections?

Update: I worked on strengthening the front bumper since it was attached to the flimsy Tamiya plastic bumper. I can now pick the truck up by the front bumper without it trying to pull away from the body. I then figured out a way to put some Axial sliders on the chassis. I mounted the body with magnets gooped to the body and countersunk screws into the body post up front. In the rear I just used the traditional body post holes and clips. I'm still needing to trim away the bumpers from the actual body and apply decals. I was going to start with the decals last night but the decal sheet that came with the body was precut wrong and it cut a line through some of the decals. I have contacted HPI to see if I can get a replacement sheet. |
