Default 1/4 scale Pacesetter Eliminator RC funny car.

Hey guys! Just scooped up an awesome project from my neighbor. Very rare pacesetter funny car, with a 52 cc two stroke motor. Anybody know anything about these things? My plan is to slowly restore it.

Don't mind the silly paintings on the wall. Was painted that way when I bought the house lol.

One more to show the sheer size of it. That is my 1/10 tt02 frd drift car sitting ontop of it... it's about 4.5 feet long.

Ive spoken with a few guys who play with these things, the 52 cc TML motor was an option and I guess pretty darn quick.

So when I got the funny car, the front axle was missing, so I decided to make one in the shop tonight, and mock it up on the car. It looks way cooler as a full rolling chassis!

It's honestly just thrown on there for now. Need to turn some new Pins to mount the steering blocks. Until then you get rigged up sketchyness. Also hope you guys enjoy my machine shop quality print.

Hey guys. Got an update if anyone is interested. Got the motor running. Has tons of compression, a lot of rpm, and sounds great. I got everything major sorted out, so I decided it's time to tear it apart and start making everything look pretty. Starting with the chassis. I sandblasted the chassis, and inspected it for any weak welds, bends or cracks Nothing found except for a hacked up steering servo mount. Back when these were made, Futaba was the only company making servos big enough for these. Over time, the 1/5 scale servo was introduced to the hobby which was slightly larger than the Futaba. So someone over the years hacked the mount with some booger welds and called it good enough. Not for me. I decided to cut the mount off, cut a new one with my sheet metal brake and shear, and welded it in place. I will be cutting the slots for the 1/5 scale savox servo, then epoxy priming it, then paint.

Pictures!

The mount:

The new mount before welding it on.

Gave me an excuse to finally go buy that welder ive had my eyes on.

What kind of top speed would you expect out of this thing?

Nothing like good old fashioned restoration. This should be very cool to follow!

I would get the gas bottle if you want to get better welds without all the spatter. Looking forward to following this build.

There is a gas bottle. Its just hidden behind the cart. The welds you saw werent mine haha. I didn't take any pictures of the servo plate welded on, I should have them today. Hoping to get the chassis painted today as well.

Another update. Got the servo plate welded on and cut out to the dimensions of a savox 0235MG, and then off to paint.

The plate.

The template.

Then cut out and finish filed.

Here you can see the size difference.

Then off to paint. Shot it with a few coats of epoxy primer, and then Nason single stage urethane black.

Started on the rear axle assembly today while the paint cures on the chassis. First I took some pictures of everything together.

Then I disassembled the rear axle assembly. Once disassembled, i wanted to clean up the rear axle shaft because there was some gouges and deep scrapes on it. And a simple "I'll just put it in the lathe and sand it" turned into a three stage metal polishing act... but im happy with how it looks..

Then I thought... well the aluminum hubs should be just as shiny... so then I decided to polish those.
Unpolished, and polished.

Still have a lot to do but im excited to begin on the wheels... should look good rolling on some polished wheels with the paint scheme im brewing up! Until next time. Comments and criticism welcome!!

More detail work done on the rear axle assembly. Bearing plates are polished, the spacers are cleaned up, along with the large nut that the disc brakes ride on. Just have to clean and repaint the sprocket, and then disassemble and detail the caliper assembly then the rear axle can go back in as a whole.

Before

After

I just want to do burnouts with this thing!

I watched some YouTube vids of these things after you posted it. They looks super fun. You're rebuild is coming along nicely. Can't wait to see it finished.

I can't wait to actually make a pass down the road with it. Although with the amount of money they are worth and the amount of money I'm putting in it i don't see myself driving it a ton. Although this is one of the funnest RC's I've worked on in a while.

Small update. Finished putting together the rear axle assembly, minus the caliper. Polished the other hub, and also painted the sprocket, and a few other small spacers. Next step is to refurbished the clutch shaft so I can install the rear axle, and install the chain and set the tension correctly. I removed the bearings in the bearing blocks, and soaked the bearings overnight in degreaser, repacked the bearings, and cleaned and reinstalled the seals. Wheels and tires are temporary for now until I am able to toss my other set on the lathe and polish them. Not too many pictures just completed photos.

For size reference, this rear axle is about as wide as an scx10 power wagon is long.. its huge.
