Default Little Red Wagon

Anyone out there remember the "Little Red Wagon"? Well, it's not a Gasser, Pro Mod or scaler....but it is something I've been geeked about building for sometime. For those who may not know, exhibition wheel-standers were born form this truck. Original concept was to enter the original LRW as a factory experimental drag truck A/FX....but once the truck was conceived and back in 1964, the creation was "hidden" from corporate eye's by hiding it in plain site in a garage on Woodward at the Chrysler plant before being moved to Dick Brandster's shop in Troy MI. The engineers stuck a cross ram'd HEMI 20" behind where the slant six used to live. Anyway I am attempting the original suspension design first which back then was U bolting a Dana 44 to the sub-cradle under the 2x3 box tube frame. So, back then the ass end used to want to swap ends on the big end of the 1/4 mile, which led to a "hinged" cradle and a leafed set up. Anyway, here is where I am at so far. Narrowed up a set of front tires and wheels and got it into a rolling chassis.

I am IN LOVE I have the model kit and all of the Johnny Lightning wheel-standers. Those guys were AWESOME! The whole "quarter-mile-wheelie" gang were something to see. I remember a mid-engine 'Cuda (I think) with the window in the floor so he could see "thru" for long wheelies.
This is gonna be GOOD.

I agree 100% about being a super cool build. The Hemi under glass would of been another great car. If you could control the wheelie that will make a cool video. Look forward to this build. Great start you have going there.

Yep, HEMI Under Glass, I almost did that one first but I got the bug to do the A100 instead.

Thanks! I am hoping that with brushless power, 3s, a small pinion and a Castle ESC I may be able to play with the throttle curve so I can "soften" the hit when I hit the throttle.

Yeah, between the old A/FX cars and the wheel standers, that was a great period in drag racing.

Coming, I've joined the halves and started on shaping the back end. Just taking my time, a few curves here and there!

Yeah, I was completely prepared to take a break and play more with the Vette and build a trailer, then the Little Red Wagon popped up I got hooked. Thanks for the kind words!

A few pics showing some progress on the Little Red Wagon, a little further on the body work, still have a lot to do.

Thanks! Just truly enjoyed the old drag cars, hoping this one will pull the wheels like I am envisioning.

Little Red Wagon is almost ready for the body shop a little more styrene, filler, sand, filler, sand some more...more filler......well you know the drill. Did get the trans in, fab'd up the shortest driveshaft I have ever used.

What transmission is that, RC4WD?, I thought maybe you'd hook the motor directly to the rear axle. It would wheely for sure!

Hi Mike, it may yet be a direct coupler, I am positive that the "shorty" is the weakest link - am working on mounting the trans - will see if aligns perfectly it may go direct. The Trans is an Electrifly electric airplane unit. P/N GD600.
