Default XSRCdesign builds a M05

The girlfriend did pretty good this past Christmas, I've been wanting a mini to bash around with my friend and his dad, but a normal M03 wasn't going to cut it. So she picked me up a M05 pro kit

Starting with a M05 pro kit, a Mini Cooper body I had laying around, a way overkill s9551 servo I have had here, some Turnigy lipo "stick" packs, a set of wheels and tires and the chassis parts in black (the black chrome in the kit is kinda meh) more on that later

Officially started it last night. This is about as far as I got before it was time to go ring in the new year.

My black chrome looks very green. And honestly way too flashy. Buying the black parts was still cheaper than upgrading a base M05 so I'm still ok with it.

Made enough progress to realize I really don't like Phillips hardware, made an order for some misc screws, and pins. Should be able to take care of the few specially screws I couldn't just replace with standard hardware.

Shock building is fun.. it's actually pretty easy when you can see inside the shock body. Thought that was pretty neat.

Also ordered a hobbywing 13t motor (380 guts on a 540 can) and a esc to control it.

Tamiya kits build fast

99% done.. just waiting on a bit of hardware and my motor / esc to show up. Oh and some paint...

1.55 RC4WD stamped steel wheels look pretty sweet on those if you have a set laying around. Just sayin. I'm a huge Mini fan. This build is fun. I have an M03 with that body and an '05 Cooper S track toy.

Civic body is too big for the M chassis.

I hope your not gonna try and put anything smaller that a 17.5 in that car. I blew the tires off mine with a 13.5.

I've had my eye on this car for awhile. We were out on the street yesterday racing the rally cars (Old TB01 for me) and I started thinking about this one again.

Funny to happen across this here today.

13t (think 380 parts in a 540 can) from what I read it should be similar to a Tamiya sport tuned motor. I figure I had amazon gift cards and it was only $80 for the motor and ESC so why not

RPP has it at a pretty good price right now... in fact i know it's cheaper than tower where my GF picked this up.

glue your tires to the rims. maybe think about getting a set of slicks too.

these are the onroads ive had most fun with. besides my atsushi hara pro-4

my uncle has five bodies for his. and probably 10 sets of tires for it. we burn a set each battery pack.

Oh they will get glued. I got the S grip tires to start. These are cheap enough it's not too bad to but a couple sets

those xpresso kits are tiny! and if you get a RWD one get the m-06. battery is inline with the chassis and you can fit a hardcase 2s in it. 3s maybe.. if you wanna get crazy.

So is the Pro kit worth the extra money? I was looking at this one from Tower but I didn't know there was a Pro kit. For the price that RPP has it for, I'm thinking of it instead since I already have a Lancia body I could use.
