Tamiya has a nice metallic blue also, I think its 19 but I’ll check when I get home. In the sun it looks awesome

I’ve been looking for ideas of hinging the hood and can’t seem to find any that I like. Any suggestions?

Sweet project you got going

As for a hinge I like what DarkDragonWing put up on thingiverse

Shapeways has some generic hinges available that may work

What are you after with the hinge? scale looks or simple/cheap?

Just something that works and strong enough that I won’t have to worry about it breaking.

I’ll order a few of those shapeways ones and see which one works best.

I found the perfect hood hinge kit for this in BadWagon’s build thread in the tf2 section that is from bowhouse rc.

After messaging new2rocks it is unfortunately not released yet and won’t be till around early summer. So I might be forced to wait on getting hinges for this until that is released

Meanwhile... you could cut the 2 back doors off an rc4wd tacoma, make it a single cab drifter?

Yeah? Yeah!

Or at least start a thread for the rtr mst you got?

Ehh it’s a bone stock rmx, there’s nothing on it worth starting a thread for it

I did just order my first pandora body for it so I guess if you insist I can start one once it’s here

I never mentioned which pandora body it is, how many I got, what color or really anything for it.

It’s not the body I was hoping to get but I’ll put that in the thread for it once the body gets here

Not much of an update, the front body mount and diffuser are now available on shapeways, the rear mount will be up on there later on today

Alright after nearly 2 months with no real update I finally have one. I messaged the vendor who’s coming out with the hood hinge kit for the Mojave body and was told it will be another week or 2!

So on that note I ordered the same gyro that’s in simple drift car and will be running a 13.5 motor. I’ll update when the basic electronics are in.

Also I’m planning on cutting out the center sections of the grill and adding a fan shroud type thing with 1 or 2 fans on it underneath the hood. It will probably have no effect what so ever on the motor but i figure it will still be a nice touch anyway.

Also this thing will be getting leds, most likely from powerhouse but who knows.

Got the motor and esc in the truck! The esc is a hobbywing justock with a speed passion 13.5t. It is a faster motor than what came in the rmx but the drift truck is a longer wheelbase with a much heavier body so it should work out.

The esc comes with orange yellow and blue wires for the abc connections. Unfortunately with this being an older esc and the wires being way to short I had to remove the factory wires and replaced them with deans 12 gauge wire. The battery connector should be long enough as it is.

Update!

On Sunday I threw some grip tires on this thing to test it and make sure everything was happy. It ran great besides scrapping on everything. While running it in front of the house I had 2 people stop and compliment it!

The mst gyro came in on Monday so I put it in the truck and put the drift wheels back on and went back out to try it. The truck scraped even worse and wasn’t drifting very well. So that night I put a longer rod end on the front mono shock and made some tweaks to the gyro.

I took it out again yesterday after picking up primer and clear for it, and still managed to have issues drifting it. This time I took the rmx out and finally realized what the problem was! In a drift the gyro was automatically steering into the drift. Meaning if the rear was sliding to the right, it steered to the left. Were as in this situation the rmx would counter steer by turning to the right.

Now just have to figure out how to fix the problem

It was raining yesterday so I had to test the truck indoors. It was doing better even know it seemed to be either counter steering too much or there was too much grip on carpet.

There’s also a large mod coming for this thing and that will have to attacked by a drill and dremel to make it fit. The truck will be sweet with the mod!

Seeing as how the secret mod has finally come in, although I won’t be able to do it for about 2 weeks.

I picked up a 400x500x2mm sheet of carbon fiber! It’s not one of the expensive a$$ sheets as it’s from hobbyking but it’s still real carbon fiber!

I’ll be using a dremel with cut off discs to get it close and round sanding drums to get it perfect. I’ve also picked up multiple 1/8 drill bits and a counter sink bit as well. As carbon fiber can be dangerous to work with I made sure I have disposable masks and nitrile gloves as well!

With the carbon fiber I’ll be cutting a new upper and lower chassis plate to get rid of the stock frp chassis with steel extensions.

I think that I could’ve gotten a smaller sheet of carbon fiber as this sheet is longer than the body as the dimensions rc4wd has posted is that the body is 486mm

Also the bed has been sprayed! First coat was with tamiya fine surface primer. Next coat was tamiya ts-50 mica blue and the cleared with tamiya ts-13

The custom cut carbon fiber chassis is done. The chassis is not perfect by any means but who cares. This truck isn’t meant for show anyways!

I also got the body painted as well. Also sprayed the inside of the cab and under the hood with metallic black. Then got the power shift rc led kit installed. I cut it up and redid the wiring to make it all clear as this isn’t a stock application.

Then the thing I’ve been waiting for finally came out!

The hood doesn’t hinge the best as I ordered this the day after it was released and they’ve already updated it! I may just file this one and use the new parts for a secret project that’s in the works.

Now just to redo the led wiring and do the receiver connector, then mount the hilux windows when they come in and then it’s pretty much done.............. for now

Siiiiick man I have missed a TON of progress!!
Really awesome! It came together great and the carbon sheet really cleaned up the chassis.
Nice hinge kit!

I need to work on some drifters!!!
