I picked up one of those aluminum tracked chassis kits on ebay. Added an aluminum project box that fit roght on top of the chassis perfectly. Im using a Sabertooth controller for the motors. No I'm adding a pan ans tilt turret for camera and spot lights. I call it Wall-E for obvious reasons. The kit uses standard Hen Long plastic tracks but I upgraded to heavy metal tracks. The metal tracks are so heavy that the little motors can barely run them. Still working out a few bugs. Here is is as of today. |

Looks more like #5 from the movie Short Circuit , either way, looks cool . What are your plans for it? Covert operations with the neighbors?

I forgot about "Johnny 5" hah. I think its going to be used to check the tall grass for rattle snakes on my property. Mainly just for goofing off though. |

I see that auction but how do you upgrade the tracks?

| Re: Tracked FPV Vehicle These are the exact same type of track that come with the kit. You will have to shorten them though. Also, the motors are not strong enough to push the metal tracks. I may go back to the plastic ones if I cant find a decent replacement motor set. https://www.ebay.com/itm/HengLong-1-...72.m2749.l2649 |

http://r.ebay.com/pkkChM I’m using a handful of these gear motors for a crane project I’m working on. The torque conversions I’ve found online work out to 35 lbs/in. With a 1/2” shaft attached they will dead lift 20lbs (and theoretically more with the claimed spec just don’t want to over work them) Not sure how fast your current gear motors spin but these crank at about 110rpm (the listing claims 100) Not sure if they are the same diameter and bolt pattern or not but they have a print of the gear motor included. Obviously they are longer don’t know if you’d have the room. Doing a lot of guessing on the size of your drive wheels a 1.5” diameter at 110 rpm you would be looking at 518 in/min; 43.2 ft/min or .49 mph (all theoretical not including track inefficiencies and vehicle weight)...kinda slow but I’m not sure of your goals. They make faster spinning gearboxes but at a loss of torque obviously. Cool project! I’ve looked at those chassis before but always shied away questioning the robustness of the tracks. That is awesome! I think it looks more like Wall-E than Johnny 5, but Johnny 5 is cooler!
