| Johnny and his Little Little Guy build a Tamiya TT-02 NSX
We got an ECX Barrage for my Big Little Guy to build on his own, so it only seemed fair that we get a kit for Little Little Guy.* Since he's all about super cars, he opted for a Tamiya TT-02 in NSX flavor. We built it box stock save for a set of Fast Eddy bearings (I just can't bring myself to build a kit with bushings). That means lots of plastic, pogo stick "dampers", a silver can motor and a sketchy ESC. Perfect for a kid! We worked on it together, taking our time and assembling it over a few days. We'll do upgrades over time (I've already got a set of oil dampers to throw on), but he'll have to earn/buy the upgrades and help with the labor of installing them. Should be fun. Here are a few pics of the build process. No revelations here. Always good to get the kids involved. TT's are very durable, should be a good choice!

I've actually been on a bit of a Tamiya kick lately. Beyond this TT-02, I've got some parts on order for my CC-01, I built a Dancing Rider and I've got another project based on a Tamiya chassis that I'm hoping to start soon. Agreed! They seem to be showing more interest lately, too. That's good to hear about TT-02 durability, because he likes to drive fast. I figure with the silver can in there, he can only do so much damage (beyond the body).

haha i wish i could be an agent for a LOT of people here! so much talent... and yes the TT series is purposely intended to be a "learner's road car" from the big T. i have a TT01R that i gave to my son, and the TT02 is the next evolution of the 4WD on road bath tub ;) it has revised steering and suspension so its better than the 01, but still a great affordable beginner car. still plenty quick with a brushed 540 on 2s but not enough for self-inflicted damage. just turn down your (his) throttle trim until he gets the hang of it ;) |

I'm pretty sure I'll end up with a TT-02 of my own at some point. Maybe it will have two Rs! All of my current on-road stuff is old enough that I have to hit up eBay for expensive replacement parts if I break anything. I want something I can run a bit harder with my Little Little Guy.

I've long been wishing for a nice AE86 body for the M chassis. the current stuff for 256mm wb is nice (Pandora) but the scale is off. it looks more like 1:9 especially when you put it next to a sedan on the same wb. there is a company named SPICE that did an M sized ae86 but it looks like a pile of rotten lettuce. back to the new NSX... I've actually seen a couple on the road. NICE looking cars! just cant believe its taken this long since we saw Jerry Seinfeld debut the "production model" during the super bowl, what... 4 years ago??? so Johnny, how goes the body? |

Body pics! Also, cutting out and applying all of those decals was brutal. Tamiya TT-02 NSX Build by johnny anguish, on Flickr Tamiya TT-02 NSX Build by johnny anguish, on Flickr Tamiya TT-02 NSX Build by johnny anguish, on Flickr |

Yes, Tamiya's decals are intense since there are usually tons and you have to cut each one out by hand. But nice work. It looks great!

On my Bronco I ended up using paint and sharpie for most of the trim. The bronco is all straight lines, so it was a lot quicker to paint than cut out and apply a bajillion stickers. Plus it looks better. The NSX would have been a masking nightmare (for a body that, let's face it, is going to get trashed)...

Body on, let's go! The body could stand to be lowered a little, but with the current state of our street and driveway, I decided a little extra clearance would be a good thing. We can always lower it later. Tamiya TT-02 NSX Build by johnny anguish, on Flickr Tamiya TT-02 NSX Build by johnny anguish, on Flickr Tamiya TT-02 NSX Build by johnny anguish, on Flickr |

Heyyyyyy that looks pretty nice! those decals are pretty impressive but yeah i wouldn't want to be the poor guy who put them on haha really nice body though. good to see Tamiya's still got it. the paint/decal guy is pretty good too ;) wish we could see the look on your little guy's face when he takes his first rip down the driveway. that's gonna be awesome. |

We took the NSX over to RC Excitement to run on the carpet. The track is mainly set up for turf-style buggy racing at this point, with elevations and jumps mixed in. Most of these ramps have about a lane's width so you can go around them. Needless to say, Little Little One had no intentions of going around the jumps. After trying in vain to redirect his efforts, I finally gave up and told him if he's gonna be jumping his on-road car at least take the body off! He was totally cool with that. I learned a great deal about the TT02's durability that day. It kicked a front dogbone during one of its many cartwheels, but otherwise held up to the abuse like a champ. It jumps pretty good, too!
