BoingRC's SCX10 Gasser

Hey Everyone,

Have you ever been randomly inspired to build an RC mainly just because you never really see it???

Well that was the inspiration behind this build. I have always been a fan of Hot Rods, American Classics, Old-School drag racing, etc... and that's when it hit me... You never really see "Old Gasser Style" RC Cars.
So that was it, I was going to build one. After looking into it, there have been a few made. In fact, there's a really nice Green Ford Falcon Gasser RC on YouTube. And yes, I know about Traxxas' vein attempt at a Gasser with it's 2wd Slash Blasphemi knock-off. I will say it's a cool little drag car and a great way to get into RC Drag racing, but a "Gasser" IT IS NOT. You wanna see a serious Gasser RC, check out the little Green Ford Falcon on YouTube.

Let me explain, a TRUE Gasser is a classic style, rear wheel drive, front leaf-sprung, straight axle (front and rear), handles like a shopping cart, Over-powered piece of WHEELIE POP'N GLORY!!!!
**can ya tell I'm passionate about it** Hahahaha

That being said... Here is my attempt at an RC Gasser...
A Two wheel drive Axial SCX10 powered by the all the Electronics out of the 1/8th Traxxas Funny Car...

And here is that "WHEELIE POP'N GLORY" I was talking about...

Plus, see it in a couple YouTube videos of the Parade from AxialFest 2018... (bad quality screenshots)

Hope ya guys like it, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Also, if you saw it (or me) at AxialFest 2018...
I look forward to seeing ya at Axialfest 2019

Badass build. Looking to build a version of a gasser for myself!
Same issue with the clone builds off Slash platforms, they just don't have the heart of old school hot rods.
I've had the parts eating a hole in the R/C tool box for quite some time now.
And you've got the key to finishing it!! Your front axle! How? Where? How Much? What else is required?
The rear end looks narrowed?
Seriously my son and I are wanting to make stupid, non-practical cars/trucks.

Oh yeah, this thing is definitely not a practical RC. Hahaha
It’s really just for sh**’s and giggles.

Well sadly, it looks like RC4WD discontinued that front axel in March 2018
https://www.rc4wdforum.com/forum/rc4...ront-axle-blue

But ANY 1/14 scale Semi-Truck front axle should work. I only went with that particular RC4WD one because it was Blue. Shop around and I’m sure you’ll find something.

Luckily once you mount the leaf springs to the 1/14 Semi-Truck axel, the leaf spring tuck right inside the frame rails of an original SCX10 (not sure about the SCX10.II). After that, comes the hard part... finding a chassis servo mount that sits farther back on the frame rails. Most of the ones I found put the servo right at the front tip of the frame rails. The problem is you’ll need that space to mount the leaf springs. I eventually modified one with a Dremel tool so I could get it to sit farther back. You’ll also have to drill a couple holes in the frame rails just under the electronics box in order to mount the back of the leaf springs.

Then just fashion some sort of link from your servo to the linkage, and done.

Oh, and the rear axel is normal SCX10 length. The aluminum beadlock wheels do have a bit of backspacing so that might be the "illusion". You can kinda see in the wheelie picture how deep the rear wheels are.

*I’ll post pics as soon as remember how. Haha*

Wow... I hate Image hosting websites... Photobucket blurs peoples images trying to strong arm you into paying money, and Imgur cant figure out how to make my images fit in this forum. They always make my Images WAY too big.

Why can't we just copy images directly from our computer, to this website???
You know, like an image hosting website does.

Anyways, enough of me sounding like an old man hating on technology. Here's a link to the Imgur post with 4 close-up pics of my Gasser's front end because I give up trying to post pics right now...

**Razza-Frazzin, no good, third party image hosting websites. You know what "Third Party" means??? One more F-ing person in the way of getting stuff done.**

Ah, no worries. Just happy help people build things you don’t normally see.

Definitely post a link to your build thread here. Can’t wait to see it (when ya start that is). I’ll be sure to follow it.

Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions.
