Default Looneybin 1/8 IROC Camaro v4.0 I think....

Well its been a while....like a long while since I have had my hands on a 1/8 Monogram IROC Camaro, but after some chats with 1BadJeepBruiser the other day and a quick glance at Ebay I somehow landed a NIB one for a steal. Didnt take but a second to decide what to do with it. Quick rundown. Going to try and use as much of the original model as possible to keep it super scale but I plan to fab a custom front suspension with scale Mcpherson struts, hang a Vaterra Ascender rear axle out back with a torque arm/panhard setup, drivin by a RC4WD R4 scale trans, and lots of other little details along the way.

The body will be done up similar to the Original 1/8 Camaro built by KingCobra and thanks to 1BadJeepBruiser it will be rolling on the same type wheels and tires as the OG. Cant wait to see how this one turns out as there are limitless possibilities now a days with available parts and 3d printing.

BY THE BEARD OF ZEUS THAT THING IS RAD.

man I never thought of doing a large scale model body.
Thats amazing... And inspirational. Now excuse me while I get some not so tight pants and browse the webs for large scale models...

Really great man. I will be watching this for sure.

Got the Vaterra axle half way mounted up. Added some aluminum to the chassis to support the links. Had to clearance the plastic chassis to make room for the links and rear tires but I will be adding some material back to fill in some holes. I will also be filling some of the open recesses in the chassis with j-bweld epoxy to reinforce it in key areas such as the panhard bar mount. Chassis seems plenty strong enough for what im doing but I am going to try and build it up where ever I can.

For a great rear lateral rod on ascender axle, look up Codyboy's rent to own. That way it will have better clearance and wont rub your diff cover.
If you want.
Axle looks right at home in there!

It clears pretty good now but i will check it out thanks. Not much but i started devising a mount for the rear shocks. Trying to see where im gonna add aluminum plate to reinforce the chassis and give it somewhere sturdy to mount the shock support.

This is awesome and it's not even done. I'm doing something similar with a 1/14 laferrari.

That looks really good.
What seems like a million years ago (probably early in 90's in reality) I saw in a mag (sure it was RC Car Action) where someone adapted a 1/8 Trans-Am onto a pan car chassis & thought the idea was awesome.
Found & paid what was then a small fortune for the Monogram 1/8 kit, built it, detailed it a bit, but then couldn't ever bring myself to pull it apart & build it to rc.

Pic is not of my model, just one for reference from google,
mines no where near that nice & is showing it's age & inexperience of a teenage builder.

The front arms look like they have a massive forward sweep. Maybe its just the camera angle. Everything turn ok?

Got on a roll last night and got the front end almost worked out. Will have a scaleish rack in pinion style steering setup.

Getting the front storted out. Scale McPherson strut front suspension. Mocking up. Need to order a set of nice shocks to finish all the brackets.
