Default Start of a new puller

One of our club's members is building a twin ducted fan powered puller. Because he doesn't have the necessary equipment, he asked me to fabricate the engine mounts and clutches. Here's the result of a day's hard work:

why do you guys use Air engines? wouldnt a pair of .32 truck engines put out more power, or a pair of hotbodies .46's??? and there pre-designed for clutches and heat.

anyway that looks pretty nice.

My os.18tz would piss on a hot bodies .46

The best puller I ever saw was one that had 1 of those jet engines on it. I really don't see the point in RC pulling but

os all the way, but the hb or Cen 46's have mad torque. bad for racing but they make great hill climbers

In pulling, the saying "there's no substitute for cubic inches" really is true.
These are OS .91 VR-DF's:

Engine Displacement (cu in): 0.900
Bore (in): 1.091
Stroke (in): 0.965
RPM: 2,500-25,000
Output (HP@rpm): 4.8 @ 22,000
Weight (oz): 23.37

One of these babies will pulverize any truck engine. I even expect it to give the turbine powered pullers a good run for their money.

First try wasn't a big succes. Here's what happened after about 10ft:

Tried again with glassfibre reinforced gears on the engines and a steel gear in the center. The sound of this thing (especially indoors) is incredible! You can actually feel the soundwaves!

Also tried a few modifications on the Wankel. It's sarting to run better every time

Pretty cool. I'm interested in how exatly you transfer turbine or ducted fan power to the wheels?

All scratch-built.

You'd need a turbine with a seperate power stage.

I must say that these pullers have gottin my attention. Someday I might have to try my hand at building one. I now have to go do some looking to see what it woud take to something wild with one. I have a few ideas but I will have a lot to learn as with any thing new.

New project, again not my puller, but a lot of parts made by me.
Some of you might remember the crossbox / supercharger unit I made. I never got around to building a puller around it, so I gave it to another member of our club to try it on his twin 1.08. Problem was, he didn't have the equipment to fabricate the driveshafts, so I'm building them for him. The cups and driveshafts are from a bigscale truck (1:5)
Also made the tubing for the intake.

If I'm not mistaken, there is no fan or turbin, they are simply ducted fan engines connected to a driveshaft and diff or axle.
