Default Shinchu slides again!!! Sakura D5 build!

Buckle up, gents!
Long term slow paced build, but it should be a good one.
Got a couple different bodies that can/will go on this chassis that just came in from RCMart!

Super excited I finally pulled the trigger on a dedicated RWD drift chassis, and a very affordable one! I think with express shipping it got here in a week for about $150!

Pics and unboxing vid very soon!

Cool, look forward to seeing this unfold. Will be a learnin’ For me. Drift, as a driving style certainly holds my curiosity in a way the current drag racing trend does not.

I will be watching. Local hobby shop moved to a new location and now has a dedicated drift course. I am very interested...

Unboxed!

Thanks gents.
I do have a bit of 1:1 drifting under my belt. If you rummage around on my YouTube channel you can find that too.

I have a few bodies I could slap on this chassis, one is sort of beat up and will probably live on the chassis while I learn how to pilot this rig. Then as I get better I will switch to the nicer ones and add more scale details.
Will be fun for sure!

Hey Nice! and its a RWD drifter too, I still need to get some better tires for mine I think.

I hope I didn't turn you off on that 3D printed drifter, I was curious to hear back from you on that one.

Oh yeah thanks! Nah my inbox was all full but its fixed now i think.
I had to decide between this and the 3d printed one.
Figured this had better support and should see aftermarket stuff soon.
Thanks though! I still really need to get myself a 3D printer. I cleared off a spot for one in the garage lol so at least I'm trying to eliminate excuses hahaha

Oh I though I re-sent that last message. Anyway I just asked if you planned to use the 3D printed drifter heavily or if you were gonna baby it as its almost entirely 3D printed including gears, driveshafts and springs. I just though it would be a bit on the fragile side.

Anyway I like this route much better.

Oh yeah I was researching different printing mediums as it said pla or... forgot the other one.
Anyway I was probably going to beef up the gears with brand name stuff and replace the rear axle entirely with a bow house ncyota. But that would take time and money, both resources rare for me lol

But yeah this build should be much less fuss and easier for me to learn on. I was considering a yokomo yd2 but the price on this sakura was too good to pass up!

Your cheating. You just need electronics. I’m still waiting for a ton of parts to show up so I can turn the Travis chassis into a slider

Haha yeah maybe.
I haven't even started yet though because step 1 is diff assembly and first step is "apply green slime (not included) to differential O rings"

I'm a little embarrassed to admit I don't own any green slime!
I have some on the way from Amazon.

And you could still pull ahead... i don't have any electronics or funding to procure them yet lol
I am relying on xmas gift cards lol
At least your parts are paid for!!! Hahaha

I don’t use green slime, I use the protek stuff because it comes in a syringe and you get more of it.

Ha I still have a long way to go with ordering parts for this thing. Building yours is easy, it’s all in a box and you don’t have to modify anything to make it work.

Wellllll... haha I wouldn't assume lol
I have this consistent ability to make things more complicated than they should be lol

My green slime arrived from RPP super quick.
But now I'm trying to decided on ordering a rear toe block.
It only comes with one that puts toe at 2.5 degrees but I want zero.
Turns out it uses the same blocks as their M chassis so parts are available. Problem is I can only find them overseas and express for a 5 dollar part is 50 dollars. Or pay 8 and wait a month.
I might try looking for an aftermarket part for the M chassis from itegy or something.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Ha definitely sounds like rcmart shipping. Shipping stuff from Japan to the states will cause a heart attack depending on how quick and if any lipos are in the box.

What electronics are you going to put in this?

I used to live in Japan but it was on base so shipping was cheap for me. I was slanging drift wheels like mad back then lol

Electronics will be somewhat budget minded but not cheapest.
Hobbywing brushless
Some $60 servo i found on Amazon (lowest height u could find)
Either yeah racing or onisiki gyro.
Decent but not comp level.

Might film part 1 of the build tonight?

I think I remember that.
I was there from 2005 to 2008.
Built my tt01R there for under $200 back before the days of RWD.

Didn't get to the d5 build yet.
Had to get some figure reviews done but I like alternating between figures and RC. Figure reviews don't get nearly as many views but I enjoy doing them anyway.

What’s taking so long to build it? I have parts coming in soon so the build will start moving soon.

I have a lead on a frd v3. If I get it, I may possibly need assistance identifying some parts.

Whats taking so long? Wife and 3 kids, one of which is a 2 year old who gets into everything lol and my 12 year old daughter is on the autistic spectrum.
Add to that the holidays... being a human being is getting in the way lol
I was going to do part one last night but it felt good to just curl up in bed with my wife and watch a couple episodes of "going RV" and drifting off to sleepyland.

I have some work to do today for my first civilian job in 20 years, dental appointment at noon.
Maybe, MAAAYBE a vid tonight lol

I did say long term build in the first post lol
