Default New Project GF-01 Wild Willy 4x4!

I’ve decided to build the GF-01TR that I bought for the portals that I put on my MF-01x Jimny as a normal GF-01, then eventually get a Wild Willy 2 kit to supply the body, driver, rolling stock, and front uprights to make this a 4wd Wild Willy 2!

Starting with the diffs, building the front as an open diff without a one way, but will putty up the rear diff.

Main chassis is built, with bearings and ready to move on to the suspension pieces

Oh, if anybody has not seen the inside of this chassis, here you go!

And now I’m starting to run out of parts for the conversion to Non-TR spec!

Starting on the shocks next.

Ok, I am officially as far as I can go without the Wild Willy 2 kit as well as without a Rx and servo!

Well, I have the Tx/Rx, “front” axles and wheels on hand for this build on hand and have ordered a servo and WW2 kit so I can finish it! Hopefully the WW2 will be here next week and with the Jimny being done, I’ll get started then

Well, the truck arrived yesterday and finally got a chance to get to work on it today!

And picking up where I left off a couple months ago.......

This is where I was after getting the front uprights, correct for the standard GF-01 axles, and the extra pair of rear wheels and tires.

I did find a few issues with the bottom of the body had plastic walls that touched the battery cover, which is going to require the body to sit high so it clears the electronics.

Also was trying to figure out how to run the antenna, turns out that if you place the holder over the inside of the mounting boss for the right rear body post, it lines up perfectly with the hole in the body!

And finally, here it is with the unassembled body mounted up and no servo saver, which is now installed! Took a dinner break and plan on doing a quick test now that we’re done eating and it’s this far along

Been having trouble getting Photobucket to let me load pics, so I posted this elsewhere and will put it here that way. This is how it looked last night before I put the Tamiya matte clear on it as well as links to my IG acct for what I posted on their up until last night.

I am very happy with this, Jeep Moss Green Metallic has a gold flip to it when the sun hits it right that was hard to spot in my ‘98 XJ, even when freshly washed. I decided to try that paint on this truck with a matte clear as I want to see how the flake and gold flip would react to the matte finish and this is EXACTLY what I was hoping!

Can’t wait to see how it looks fully bedlined and assembled now!

Looking good! Love the color.

So now what are you going to do with the Wild Willy chassis?

Thanks!
Honestly, it’ll just be parts since these two platforms seem to have a lot of parts in common for being so different at the same time. The transmission gears in those are the same as the GF and G6 chassis.....just half as many, the arms, bumpers, body posts, wheelie bar, maybe most of the suspension, and friction shocks all appear to be the same, plus there are parts that look like they’ll also fit my M-03(?!) and I can run the front tires on my Lunchbox and would just need to order a 3rd set of rears and an adapter of some sort to put those on the back of the Lb.

Well, this project is getting close to being “done”, at least cosmetically, just need to finish painting Willy and the Jerry Can, which also sounds like a the name of a band you’d go to a honky Tonk to see…….

The One Way showed up in the mail today, going to try and install it to night after work.

Apparently this is a popular mod for this chassis in the Japanese owned trucks!

Well, it’s done and was a simple install, truck seems to drive better just puttering around the living room too with the occasional wheelie, though the Torque Tune motor it came with was pretty hot for what I had been doing.

Got a couple pics of Willy, haven’t run it much, kinda afraid to hurt it too much.

This one is with the JK a friend of mine bought last spring.

I did have to glue the dash in and use a locknut to keep Willy in his seat

It was a little muddy and gouged up by the time I left that night

i finally built mine, i havent painted it yet, but your build gave me some great ideas, i already scrapped the spare tire cover, on my first couple of tries to pop the wheely it just jumped and layed flat on the tire cover, this on the stock mabuchi 540 and 7.2 nicd, i will post a couple of pics when i decide what color to paint it.

That's why I used the bedliner on mine, that would stand up to wheelies better!
