I put a Corvette body on mine. I'm a Ford guy but the Mustang's I run against look to be a little top heavy so I went with the Vette.

Even with a ( rather ridiculous) 3900Kv 380-rotored brushless and the 3-racing delrin high-speed spurs, it’s quite controllable - amazing, even- compared with the -somewhat klunky- TA-01 and TA-02 I used to actively race in the 90’s. And with that cheap, blue aluminium steering setup, its main ‘flaw’, the sloppy steering, is also fixed, so. Yeah. Good choice overall !

For drifting, I’m not too sure, but as a rally- or street basher it won’t dissapoint. Tip: get the metal balls for the front arms, because the polycarbonate ones wear rather fast.
thanks for the tip on the front end.

The balls that the steering knuckle extends into?

These right?

Yup. They’ll save a lot of headaches when trying to ascertain why steering suddenly starts feeling odd, or mushy. The polycarbonate balls wear, and create slop pretty early, especially on somewhat dusty surfaces.

The low-friction balls prevent early wear. The front arms dó need replacing eventually, but that’s just how it is. Wear is part of the deal, so to speak.
Especially when in competitions. For just street bashing it doesn’t matter too much. Just replace when the balls start popping-out of the a-arms.

Thanks for that tip. Looks like they are out of stock, I'll check some other sources.

After waaaaay to long (procrastination) I got the body finished up.

The main color is Tamiya PS-23 Gun Metal Gray. I then backed it with Tamiya PS-5 Black, and then did the windows with Tamiya PS-31 Smoke. Came out OK with just a couple runs. Not bad for only my second lexan paint job With the decals I trimmed a bunch of sponsor logos away for that "stock" look. I like it without a wing, but there's hideous holes already in the body for the wing. Anything I can do to fill em/cover em/ make them less noticeable? I'd also love to find a pair of mirrors that don't look too outta place

All I've done to the chassis is add different EBay wheels, and trim the body posts

And the car in it's "final" state. This will mostly be a shelf queen I reckon; it's incredibly slow. I do intend to put a different esc in it, and to change up the electronics a bit

Questions? Comments? Concerns? Recommendations?

Thank you! I'm thrilled with how it came out. I Think I've found my second favorite Tamiya PS Paint...

Yes, I've found it to be the most durable, chip resistant paint for RC bodies.

It’s, indeed, slow with the standard spur. Tamiya gears them very, vèry conservatively. Get Yourself the tt-02 speed gear set from tamiya. It’s not too expensive, and You can fit a far smaller spur that way. That Holmes motor is a crawler/trail motor, so it runs high-torque/low rpm, and the TT-02 just doesn’t have the gearing options to use it efficiently. Even a brushed cheapie 15-turns stock can 540 will be faster in a TC. The TT-01 and TT-02 really like high-revving motors. Anything above about 3000kv under load, will make it come alive. Without them, they’re real slow-pokes, basically only meant for the beginners-class in the Tamiya-Cup races.

Oh.. and ditch the plastic shaft in the middle ASAP. It will start to make a hellish rattling ruckus on anything more than a low-rev RS540sh. Aluminium shaft is about $9.- or $10.-

I agree, the motor is great for crawling but not for speed. I am using the Tamiya Torque or Sport tuned motors. They're cheap and have decent speed for brushed motors. I use the high speed gear set with a 24 or 25 tooth pinion and the metal drive shaft. I also install ball bearings if I buy the TT-02 standard kits. The R kit has ball bearings included in the kits but the R kits seem to sell out very quickly. Fun stuff. Going to have to buy a star so I can post up some of my cars.

Back with the stock motor! It's much faster and seems better suited

Also, I have some spares. Stock Tamiya gears, upgraded suspension balls, the stock rally tires, and of course, my drift ebay specials

I intend to run it on a course soon, but I might get sidetracked and try to drift
