I am new to the idea of using external BECs. I have swapped the steering servo on my Fireteam. I would like to give it 8.4v and have the other electronics run at 7.4v from the ESC. I have found an external BEC, Hobbywing UBEC 10a, and I wonder if it will work. And if so, how?! |

Basically you’d wire the BEC into the power wires going to the ESC, which would power the BEC straight from the battery. From there you’d need make or buy a bypass adapter for your servo which will have 3 servo plugs on it. One plug with power and ground that comes from the output on the BEC; one with ground and signal that goes to the receiver; and one with power, ground, and signal that goes to the servo. The bypass adapter would let your servo run at 8.4v without also sending that voltage to your receiver. Alternatively you could get a small 2s battery with the proper connector, and use the bypass adapter on that, which would save you the ESC wiring, but take up a bit more space.

ah ha! I actually understand what you are talking about! This sounds like it would work. I think I will have to map it out on paper to make sure I get it right. Last edited by VanCityCrawler; 12-16-2022 at 06:55 PM. |

Excellent! I’m glad I could help. If you want to see a bypass adapter you can check out the Holmes Hobbies website and look under wiring in the electronics menu. Good luck! And be sure to double check the wiring before putting power to it, just in case.

I almost always go to the Holmes Hobbies site and look at their bypass adapters when I make my own. One of the images is the wiring diagram which is also super useful in understanding it.
