Default Columbus Area Spring/Summer Points Series

For all of you around the Coulumbus area I would like your help. I with the help of a few others would like to set up a 2.2 "point series" comp for this spring/summer.I would also like to see the entry fees go towards prizes{prob nothing huge but its nice to have something to show for ones efforts} There is nothing in stone at this point as far as when and where. I would like to run a comp as close to every 3 weekends as we can through these seasons. I would also like to get out to the best spots we can around this area. We have a few spots in mind as of now.One being Cowboy's and the other being my course. The entry fee will prob be 5 bucks per date.

Here's where you guys come into play.

Please make any suggestions you would like as far as locations Times and overall details. I want this to work for as many people as possible.
If you know of a good location Please Post Pics. One Or Two Would Be Fine. Also Post A Map Or Directions so we can check it out. It should accomodate 3 courses and between 10 - 20 people. As far as location,
I would like to keep this within 10 miles of I-270 if we can.

If any other classes would like to run on these dates I ask some one else head that up as I am only familiar with 2.2

For those of you out of the immediate area, you are all welcome as well.

I'm sure I've missed something so this first post will be amended as needed.

Default a few spots:

Here is a pic of my place. This is near the Morse/ Hamilton Rd area. It is better than it looks it only looks flat in the pic.

And here is one of Tom's / Cowboy's its just off 70 east about 10 miles off of 270. It's much larger now this was back when it was first being built. Its the best pic I could find.

I suppose a mix on week and weekend dates would accomodate the most people. Maybe Friday nights would be a good compromise? Only problem may be lighting at your place, unless you are going to add some illumination?

At this time I am thinking all of the events will be held on the weekends. This is due to the vast difference in turn out between the Tues. night comps at Cowboys and the Sat. comps held there as of late. Another issue would be the start time. If we ran a weekday comp we would have to allow for people to finish their work days and make the trip to the site. If we have a sizable turn out this will put the issue of lighting back into play, as the only indoor spot would be Cowboy's at this time.

I don't want to rule week days out. If a demand is shown we will do what we can to accommodate. Maybe it would have to be the time we used Tom's /Cowboy's place. I will have to talk to Tom as this draw's closer due to a few issues of availability. It could even happen that we merge it with a Tues night comp. For now I will see what the popular opinion is.

Thanx for the input.,
Hope you are doing well

Your probably 100% correct on the difficulty of weekdays. In any case, I can't wait to get back to it this spring. Thanks to everyone involved in building a couple great courses. Hopefully we'll have a couple more places to go in the near future. I MAY be able to make a spot in my side yard in the next year. I got buy-in from the wife, so that's MOST of the battle right there...

Griggs reservoir, below hover dam.

Two great spots!! And they are close to everyone.

Great idea Bob.

There is another series I am and some others are doing, so we need to schedule accordingly.

Other than that, it should be a great year for crawling!

Oh, and I will have to get you some updated pix of my place! LOL

OK, No feed back on spots as of yet. Do we need to extend the location limit.
Roborg has a spot in Lancaster.
What do you guys think.
I would like to think there has to be other spots around.
I may try to check out Hoover dam this weekend and a spot off of Riverside dr wich is also bridge covered and little walking.

I think with the 10mile rule around 270 you are really limiting your locations.

I mean not all of us live in Columbus.

Oakes is about an hour from Columbus and its a great spot.

I liked the pick I saw of Oakes. Understanding that Not all of us are in Columbus I figured it would be fairly central. I don't mind a bit of a drive to accomodate good terrain but I would like to stay as close as possible for the majority of the dates. I think for alot of guys it may be hard enough to break away from the wife nad kids to crawl let alone driving 100 miles round trip to do it.

That being said,
I am open to all suggestions!!! It looks like there may have to be one or two comps that will be a bit of a drive but will also be well worth it.

I think Cory's idea, that two scores will be thrown out, is a good one. It will allow those who cant make the trip to these or any specific date to remain competitive.
So, Post Ideas for locations, Pics or links, and Diretions or Maps.
We will get it together.
As of now we have: Cowboy's
My Place
Oakes
Robs Place In Lancaster
Griggs Res.
Hoover Res.
Bender Rd near Cinci is sweet But 1.5 hour drive

A few more ideas then we can narrow it down to 6 or 7 and start setting dates!

I forgot a few. The park on Riverside Dr near Upper Arlington and new park/ Bird watching area on W. Whittier. about 4 min south of downtown Columbus. Both of these are quite similar to the place in Lancaster{you can see here:Under the Bridge Downtown

I had a chance to get to the spot off of Riverside Dr today. It is at Riverside and fishinger Rd, under the bridge on the west bank of the river.
As you can see it is covered wich could be nice mid- summer for shade or if raining. Parking lot is about a 30 -40 second walk from the rocks. Here are a couple pics:

Here are a couple of pics at the W. Whittier park. The water is high in these pics taken about a week ago. The rocks continue to the base of the over look normaly. This is about two steps from the parking area.

I had a chance to get out and do some spotting today. Following Tom's advice I went to Griggs resivoir and Hoover resivoir. Both would be great places to hold a comp. Over all I thought Griggs was much cooler due to the large variety of terrain. Also, the spot under the bridge at Fishinger and Riverside is only a mile up the road just in case of rain. Parking at Griggs Is about a 1.5 min walk and between 2 to 4 min at Hoover.
Here are the pics:
Griggs:

Hoover:

Another area at Hoover 1min walk from the first also has its own lot and a nice scaler area sharing the same lot shown in the last pic.
