| painting stainless steel?
What's the best way to paint stainless steel? I'm looking to have one of RCC's painting vendors work on a project for me and do a custom paint job on a stainless steel body. I'd like to know if it's possible before I purchase the body. |

Stainless is to pretty to paint! But if you had to my guess would be to treat it like a car. Mabye an etching solution to give the paint a "gripping" surface but I think that a good automotive paint system would be best. Try PPG products, I loved 'em when I do my cars.

A good "metal etching" primer will be key to getting the paint to adhere. Don't use just a regular primer or sealer, use a metal etching primer first. Stainless is a little harder to get paint to stick to but not impossible. |

Seems like stainless should be paintable with proper preperation. It's heavy your CG will go out the window.

Sherwin Williams has a prep material for hard metal surfaces, the name of it has slipped my mind(grew up in the 70's). It has 3 letters in the name of it. If you can find a SW store they should be able to hook you up.

I have painted a 1:5th scale metal shell. The same process in painting a real car is the same for the metal shell. The metal needs to be sanded, wetsanded, primered, and wetsanded again. then most painters use Pactra's Acrylic paint or House of Kolor paints to finish it off. The result is nice. After it is sprayed a couple of times with a clear coat to sel it in.
