Stock Betty Body Retro Hot Rod

Here is the stock body that came with my AX-10. I was never planning on running it since I have a Baja Bug body yet to be painted, but I wanted to do something fitting this style of body..A bit different than the normal "Military" style, but pretty stylish. Also, that was my first attempt at woodgrain (not as easy as it looks when seen on other bodies) and I guess it came out "OK"...I will just be getting rid of this shell, but good practice. I still need to trim and detail it with the decals, but you get the picture...

Why would you get rid of that? Thats SICK! "thumbsup""thumbsup"

Killer paint! Would you mind describing how you did the "wood" thing in the back? It looks KILLER!

Looks great to me. I think the woodgrain is just too "soft"... it needs some masked lines... maybe some hand brushwork details, then backed by what you did.

The wood was done with a base (top coat backwards obviously) of Spaz Stix Candy Rootbeer. I went light with that first, then went over it and did the streaks with the same rootbeer but heavier. I then dumped my brush and used some Spaz Stix Candy Orange (hard anodized metal or whatever they call it) and let it mix a bit with the rootbeer to make a darker orange and sprayed over the whole bed. I then coated that with Alclad Copper to dull it out and take away the transparency of the candy. Finally, I shot a quick and light dusting of Faskolor Faspearl Silver...The Rails were just done in the Alclad Chrome...I should have used some black to deepen the grain effect, but for a first try it was Okay...Thanks for the pointers...

Oh, the windows are also tinted with Spaz Stix tint, but they are pretty dark, so hard to see in the pix...I did the "Visor Strip" across the front 2 windows also.

Thanks for the info on the woodgrain. I think it looks great. I did up some Cherry for my 1:1 Chevy and coated it with a 1/4" thick layer of Clear Urethane and it looks Exactly like that...

And just one other quick question... how did you do the pinstripes around the flames? Was that a mask kit or what? I've always wondered how people did that on Lexan...
