glad i read this before i tried cutting my new 1/8th parma digger body. HA! looks like i will be there all day! but on the upside it will look good and i dont mind taking my time. thanks to the man who posted this! i'll try and post results.

i went to the craft store with the old lady and found some really heavy duty thread, it didnt ever break and cut a lot faster. awesome!

Its a great tip,would have never guessed in a million years if I had never read about it awhile back.Try heavier upholstery thread,very strong stuff,lasts longer.

It is really easy. The hardest part is starting it in the right place without it walking side to side. In this video (now buried many pages back in this thread) I used the tape to hold the thread against.

Tonight I cut something and took a Xacto knive to put a tiny notch where I wanted to start, then set the string in there and went to it.

You could cut curved openings with patience and taking your time, like fender trimming or windows. best to draw it out in pencil and follow the line with the string.
That's how I cut this rear side window out.
This is after I lightly sanded the edges to remove the residue but before I sanded the edges flat and straight.

I have been cutting plastic with this method for years. I moved from sewing thread to dental floss. Dental floss is a little stronger and tends to cut a little faster or seems like that to me. I was shown the dental floss method from a car detailer. He used dental floss to remove glued on emblems so he did not damage the paint.

I recall my uncle used two short about 5inch broom handles and take old windshield that were in good shape and use piano wire to cut seal while i lifted the windshield the black seal would be hard somtimes it would close up right after getting them apart. just wondering ican bearly cut with scissors or x acto knife.
