Default Automotive paint on Lexan?

I am building a scale truck and wanted to use some factory automotive touch-up paint (from http://www.paintscratch.com/ ) and my airbrush to paint the lexan body. Will this paint be too brittle on the body? If so, where should I look for some factory paint that will work on lexan? The website I listed gives the factory color code.

Thanks!

My guess is without adding in a flex additive in it would chip off. But I haven't ever tried that. Good luck

I paint all my bodys with automotive paint, but I put hardner and flex in all of them. Go to the local paint store and get some single stage .The fj in the pic is my newest its painted on the out side and dont chip or flake off at all. The paint in that link will most likly chip off real bad.

What did you use for primer? Or do you not need it since you added the flex/hardener agents.

What are the exact products. I want to use factory paint for my scaler and should do this as well.

Thx

no primer just plastic adhesion promoter. scuffed with a red scotch brite pad, sprayed adhesion promoter then sprayed some limco acrylic enamel with flex in it. just go to any automotive paint shop and basicly tell them your painting a bumper, its about the same procedure. anymore info need just ask

Yeah, I was thinking of adding the adhesion promoter, but I wanted to paint this on the inside.

I think that I might just get some regular acrylic paint and mix up the color that I want.

Thanks for the tips!

What is the flex agent brand? My local shop doesn't carry it anymore. Their body shop customers don't use it anymore since the hardened stuff flexes good enough. Is the plastic adhesion stuff a spray can or you spray on?

Iam an automotive painter PPG paint has D820, you can spray with your airbrush. Its pink in the can but dry`s clear, if you want to use it on the inside. works great on all plastic.

So D820 is available separately or it is in the paint? If separately you just spray it on first and the paint adheres to it?

Thx

yes just spray it on first, did some tests on lexan and it held where other products peeled off. could not scrape it off with a razor blade.

I do not seflex agent on mine. Just scuff the inside of the body with grey scotch brite and you will be good to go. I do it all the time using House Of Kolors.

You do not need a flex agent. I have been running this body for close to a year now. The lexan is cracking apart before a flake of paint has started to come off. The guys keep telling me I need to do up a new body, what do you all think

Looks good, is that base coat ? Base is pre flexed, if your using a single stage were you have to add a hardner I would say use flex or it will dry 2 hard and chip.

I use r/m base and as long as u use very light thin coats the paint sticks just fine. I have painted several bodies this way with the spray can addpro and diamont base. Just remember that the base stays flexable when its thin.
