window tint???

anyone use the automotive product they use to tint brake lights as window tint on a body? or is there a better way to do this?

Search for my '07 Ultimate Adventure FJ Cruiser Build thread. I utilized window tint for my build...

You could use window tint lexan paint. Its made to stick to lexan bodies. You should be able to get it at your LHS, or Tower

Haven't used the brake light tint, but I have used the spray can window tint by pactra. It worked OK, but I did not let the first colors dry, and the tint bled through. I also found it very difficult to get the windows to have consistant color. My personal choice on the next body will be film tint.

sweet thanx

I have used the Tamiya brand of window tint & it works well.

I used the Pactra window tint and had good results. I painted the body and let it dry overnight then painted the tint.

This isn't the best pic but it gives you an idea.

body came out killer "thumbsup"
I understand those bug lids are getting harder to find, as they have been discontinued...

x2 on the Pactra window tint

I use it and always have great results, i usually do 3 coats to get a nice, near black, translucent tint.

I used the sparkly low rider window tint on my Betty :-P

It's clear sparkle nail polish under black paint.

Spazstix Shadow/window tint is my favorite. I've used Tamiya, Pactra, and Parma but I've had the best results with Spaz...
One cool thing about it is you can mix any of the hard ano colors 50/50 with it and have colored tint.

the pactra tint paint does not work! i have used it multiple times an even when the paint was dry for a month, the tint bled through and ruined it. i do not reccomend the pactra tint. i find the tamiya 'smoke' color works the best.

yea i actually used llumar window tinting film to tint my windows on my rig,it came out ok but once you beat it around it bubbles us alittle.

+2 Spaz's tint is the best Ive come across too. Fastints has left me a weird texture and looks blotchy up close. Spaz's has been nice and even.

tinycrites 07-17-2008 12:00 AM

I used fastint once and it didn't look to good. Hard to keep it even.

p01rogue 07-20-2008 08:14 PM

hey

after trying everything over the years with window tint I've come to the conclusion that there is no really good way to do it.
Now i just use real tint and put it on the window outside and just change it when it gets to banged up looking.

I've had customers use the stuff on real cars with little to no issues with application (haven't heard of any legal problems either) and I have used it with some success a couple times. You just have to heat the can up and carefully apply it to the surface since it'll run like snot in January under most circumstances. I've even used it tint a set of Traxxas 2.8" Twin Spoke rims for my Pede.

i just got the pactra stuff to work pretty good! and it was my first time ever painting a body!

helhedded 12-30-2008 09:25 AM

Why don't people just use black paint for tint? Is the window tint spray translucent or something to simulate real tint?
