Default Pro-line Ford F-100 - Paint on the outside

Just finished my first scaler...

I misted Tamiya black on the inside, backed it with Tamiya Copper for a rust color. Then painted it with a coat of silver, white, black then the main body color on the outside (body is a little heavy with all that paint )

I think it came out pretty decent for my first try paiting on the outside.

I was going to put some dents and dings in it, but I tried a little on some scrap peices of lexan and wasn't happy with the results, so I wussed-out and didn't do it.

Now it's time to scratch it up (actually already have...)

So how are the OutCroppers working out for you?

Truck looks really nice! What kind of running gear? I see AX10 axles.

I hope I don't step on anyone's toes....I didn't want to really double post, I do have a build thread in the 1.9 forum, with more pics if anyone wants to see more.

It's Ax10 axles, ax10 tranny, x-trail chassis, eritex beadlocks and rc4wd out croppers.

I really like the out croppers. I did buy a set of Trail Doc XL's from Corey at RPP and I do like those as well. Just initial testing and runs, I felt that the out croppers performed a little better. They are softer than Rock Stompers and Rock Crushers which is great! By far the best compound from RC4wd.

In comparison the Trail Docs were just a tad taller and a littler softer even in it's firmest compound of "soft". But the taller lugs of the out croppers seem to make a bigger difference.

Remember to post a few shots after after she gets some wear on that paint. It should look really good with a little natural wear and tear.

Being fairly new to the Lexan body & The R/C hobby, I was wondering the same thing. I am sure there is a very good reason, I was just affraid to ask...

We'll for me the idea was I wanted a flatter sheen and more realistic look, since this was supposed to be a "scale" rig.

I painted the inside copper to give it a "rust" look. The extra colors on the outside were to even enhance that true paint chip look. So when the paint scrapes/rubs off on the outside, which it eventually will it will look like rust poking through and hopefully I'll end up with what looks like a realistic banged up truck.

You can even take it further and put your own dings and dents in too and pre-"weather" the truck.

Here's a thread I referenced a few times when doing this -

Paint on the outside

I personally was too chicken to the dents (I tried a few on some scrap and couldn't do it very well) plus after a couple days work, I just wanted to be done.

So I sort of used this as an inspiration, I love the way this rig came out and figure one day my body might look as cool as Nluvwithxlr8ing's rig

Mike, Body and truck look awsome as does all of your rigs. Can't wait to see it a little more scratched up.

That's a cool idea. I was going to try something like paint different colors on the inside to give it that beat up look. But after your idea, I'll have to give that a try. Would a brown backed by white on the inside give it more of a duller rust color?

I would test some scrap lexan and see if you like the results.

Usually white will make a color brighter. That's why I misted black straight copper seemed too "perfect".

Thanks again for all the compliments!

I'm up at pinecrest,ca with the kids right now and it's killing me I didn't bring it on vacation. There is a ton of places to crawl here!

I'd be interested to know what brand of paint you shot on your F100?

All Tamiya, except the bed and the coat of black was Krylon Camo Ultra Flat (really nice too btw! I would use that again in a heart beat).
