| Vinyl Plot Cutters
As a preventative measure: I realize I have a tool addiction. I sometimes purchase tools knowing that I may not use it too much and my wife claims I sometimes don't use them enough. I accept it and want what I want. I'm looking at Vinyl plot cutters (the wife sale is that they can also cut card stock for scrap booking so keep that in mind) so I can cut my own vinyl for airbrushing (I'm a noob but what's that got to do with it?!?) as well as for a variety of other purposes like full sized vehicle stickers and maybe even a sign for our guest bedroom's $hitter. I don't like "hobby" equipment quality as it typically doesn't last over time. I lean towards entry level production stuff. FWIW. Does anyone have any experience with them or even know what the better brands are? Any advice or recommendations are greatly appreciated! I found this one on ebay: Found Here: http://cgi.ebay.com/CE-5000-Vinyl-St...24172001r16262 I'm not sure it needs to be 15" as 12" would probably do everything I could ever want. Part of me wonders if even an 8" one would do the trick. Some are listed as being able to print 8" x 36"...that's HUGE!! Let me know what you guys think. Matt |

Most material comes in 15", 24", 30", 48". . . You can buy vinyl or the preferred masking is called 'GerberMask' by the yard at most sign supply shops. Look up Denco Sales - they have a location in Denver I believe. BTW Graphtec is 1 of the best Vinyl cutters for the $, I use a 52" every Mon-Fri.

For a hobbyist, really any size would do the job, probably even a cricket cutter. I used to have a small vinyl sign business and my 24" cutter was too small at times, but that was when doing store front signs or working on something big like a trailer. Get what you feel comfortable buying and have fun

I have the 15" roland stika. It's a killer machine and I've never said " damn, wish I spent the extra grand on the bigger one".

I had a Graphtec at work a few years ago and I used the heck out of it, never a problem. We labeled about 300 forklifts with it and it never let us down. Very good machine, especially for the money.

I have a 24" Roland friction feed. love it. once you have one youll wonder how you ever did anything without it. but I guess that goes with any tool. I use Signmate for software. |

I guess I went hobby level with a Roland Stika 12". Got it refurb for $400, which was fine by me. It really only cuts about 10", but that's plenty for paint masks for scalers and even longer format designs for full size vehicles.
