Default Dying Lexan?

OK so we've all dyed nylon wheels, and bumpers and various other parts, but I was wondering if anyone has ever tried dying a lexan body? Will the lexan take the rit dye? Do you have to get it any hotter than you normally would? I've got a new body comming, and was thinking a short soak in some black dye to get the look of tinted windows, and then painting the body as I normally would. I realize the paint would also look "smoked out", but I thought it would make a cool effect.

So... Anyone tried this?

Put lexan in hot water and watch it deform.

Just make sure you experiment with some scrap lexan first.

You'd only make it once.

Default yep..

i used to dye a bunch the stock plastic parts on my micro heli... one time i took a shot at the canopy (pretty sure it was lexan material)... deforms BADLY into boiling or HOTHOT water.

took VERY little color as well. had this interesting sort of blue haze tint to it, but was deformed as well. ah well... i wouldn't waste much time with it.

jsut get soem spray tint from the autostore, or even the hobby store. If you could find a really really wide sharpie they work for tinting too

I think Tamiya makes a "smoke " paint that may give you the effect you are looking for. Just spray it on it thin coats to build up the desired tint you are looking for.
