just got my can o window tint, but

i see on the back of the can it says to COVER EXISTING PAINT WITH 2 COATS OF RC290 BEFORE APPLYING RC249 WINDOW TINT... my question is this. do i need this really? i am painting my xj body white to match my 1:1 xj. i have silver (RC262) to back the white (RC251) wit. and then i have black to back the silver wit. do i still need the RC290? what does this really do? any help would be much appreciated... :)

Yes you need it. if you don't I have seen that crap ruin paint jobs. I wouldn't use it, go to Walmart and buy some window tint and use that.....looks better.

really? thats crazy...

so any of the window tint they sell in pepboys or walmart or anything like that will work and not flake off or anything? never used window tint spray on anything. so i should just get rid of the can of pactra i got and get the other stuff eh?

and...

if i use the stuff from walmart do i have to do anything other then my white, silver, black under coating?

oh wow, sorry man went back to work and forgot about this. I'm sure you figured it out by now. I was talking about using actual automotive window tint, it's adhesive backed.

Whenever I have used the rattle can tint I always mask of the entire car minus where I want to tint. Then I shoots thin coat or two on the windows, remove masking and it's good to go.

I've never had any problams spraying the entire inside after a black base. What issues supposedly arise?

Skeeno 01-03-2011 11:02 AM

I've had it leach through paint before. It turned my white car into a splotchy yellow and white car.

The tint is like a black paint thinned out with a chemical that when painted on bodies softens and ruins existing paint that is on the body.
