Who makes competition orange paint?
 

I am trying to find some GM Orange (Competition Orange) paint in a spray can to do my new body. I need a spray paint that will work on lexan. I was at my local hobby shop on the weekend and the only spray cans they can get this color in is Tamiya & they have had it on order for almost 3 months (back ordered supposedly). They did not know of another brand of paint in a spray can.
I am wondering what other brands of paint I can use to paint a lexan body (I currently do not have an airbrush so I'm kinda limited to spray cans)?

I've used Pactra polycarb spray although not comp orange. I prefer Tamiya but not enough to limit my color choice.

I know they say that you are not suppose to use it... But in the past I have used automotive paint (dupli-color) backed with a lexan paint with great successes. Did this with my road car. Many crashes later, and only 1 tiny area on my bumper has lifted.

I agree and have done the same thing. I usually hit it with a heat gun right after spraying, seems to set the paint up to the lexan really well.

I was thinking about trying this before - I come from an atuomotive background so I've already got tons of paint at home. Of course the guys at the hobby shop said it wouldn't work (trying to get me to buy the expensive paint from them I'm sure).

On another note I've already called my local shop about the Pactra paint and of course it's special order also...one of the things I hate about living in a smaller city.

I haven't tried Krylon yet but I know a lot of people have but the fusion is for plastics and supposedly works well. I've used it on styrene with no problems. you can get it at walmart.

The pactra is the same color. I have some right now. It's part# RC256

If you want to use auto paint, just apply some bulldog adhesive promoter first, and it will stick better than lexan paint. I prefer to use SEM 39863 over bulldog, but depends on what is available to you. I've demonstrated the SEM on a lexan body by bashing, crumpling, and creasing the painted lexan body to show SEM's extreme adhesion ability. It's better than bulldog, but bulldog will work just fine.

Try an arts and crafts store, I always use the $1 bottles of acrylic paint. I'm sure that you can find a color that is close enough for you to use.
