| How to back paint??
I am painting my first body so I ordered a "Pactra Candy Purple" paint. I have seen some pictures where the paint was used on different trucks and also Pactra's sample color. Well the paint that I bought (same part numbers.RC273) looks nothing like the sample pictures or any other picture I've seen. My paint is dark purple and the samples are more blue than purple. One guy said I should back it with a light color to get the blue look. What does that mean and what color should I use to get the blue look? White, silver, what?? thanks for the help

Whatever you back it with will have an effect on the overall color. So you don't end up with something you don't want, try different backing colors on a scrap piece of clear plastic until you get what you want. For example, the light green stripe and dark green body are actually the same color, just with different backing. Black for the body, silver for the stripe. Also, candy colors were not meant to be sprayed on thick, and the more that is on there the darker it will be, no matter what you back it with. From what it sounds like, you've probably gone way past the blue you were after... Last edited by Duuuuuuuude; 03-09-2012 at 07:12 AM. |

I always use Pactra's Indy silver to back candy and most pearls. The Candy colors can be tricky.

A nice flaky gold can give red's a nice deep red candy effect. Best to test out several different backings before the project.

What happens if you first back the primary color with white, silver or gold and then back that with black? Do you loose some of the effect that the lighter backing provides? I like the all black look underneath -- kind of like a 1:1 with undercoating.

It depends on how much light it blocks. Silver is usually pretty dense, so backing it with black won't change much if anything (depending on your coverage). White still lets some light through, but you could always back that with silver and then add the black. I've never used gold. | |

Just like anything else paint differs from brand to brand, and even batch to batch. Find a old pop bottle, clean it out, hack it up and test your paint. Get the look you want. 30min's playing around with different combo's will be well worth it.
