| My inside/outside rust/scratched adventure.
My girlfriend has been crawling with me the last couple weeks and likes it enough that she wanted a new body for the truck I'm letting her use. So after easily an hour of Ebaying allllllllllll the options for a scale truck, we ended up buying her an 80's Chevy. Which was the first body we looked at but she felt the need to keep shopping. My first stab at rust/bare metal underneath. And her truck Together |

She wanted a simple black truck. Almost dry enough to de-mask and mount up. Now for my truck. I was going for this scheme. My great grandparents had a 74 Suburban this color. I needed a good base. And since old people can't drive, I needed some off color panels. That yellow turned out to be a pretty nice base for my final color too. And the final coat Almost dry enough to demask. Comments and suggestions welcome. Last edited by Brainstain; 03-10-2012 at 11:19 AM. |

Looks great! I would be super interested in a follow up on these after a few months of use! Make sure to bring this thread back to life in a while and show off your scratches. I really like the one on the right (your truck), with the bare metal look mottled in. It will be interesting to see how they wear, and how much of the "metal" look comes through. Is that Tamiya's Copper color?

I did an Axial B-17 body like that. I painted the inside with Tamiya copper then laid down a Faskolor silver base on the outside. I followed that with Krylon Fusion flat black. The Fusion paint is pretty durable but it looks good after 2 years of abuse. Please post some finished product pics and go beat them up so we can see how the undercoat looks once scratched... |

It's Tamiya copper and silver inside. The outside of hers is Parma backing black. Mine is Parma white, Daytona yellow and Inca gold. Here's the finished product of hers mounted on a chassis I had done (Don't mind the wheels sticking way out, her truck will look better) and some almost finished of mine. I'll post pics of mine completed when I get home. | |

Got some pics after the first run. About an hour and a half of trail running in a little creek bed sand area and just playing around in a dirt/concrete dump land fill thing. Anyway, here's the pics of the bodies. Here's a pic of all three Chevy's we took out today. I had both of our trucks running and threw the loaner back together for a buddy to run. I'm pretty sure "As soon as I get my LS heads back, I'm f'kin getting one of these!" means he's hooked. GF's first Mine. Last edited by Brainstain; 03-19-2012 at 03:46 AM. |

Took the trucks out this weekend and trailed around. I'll have a few pics up here in a bit. These things are starting to really get some character after about 3 hours of wheeling.

As a former Chevy owner, you need to be showing more rust on the fenders over the wheels, and on the lower cab corners, and in the bed, and on the rocker panels under the doors...... well it's a chevy.... it needs more rust. I had a hole in my fender just behind the front drivers tire big enough to fit my head through.

I'm only showing rust due to damage. Being from Indiana, if I wanted to be truly scale I'd just run a cab shell with a hood, say the rest rotted off and call it good. |

Yeah the further north you go the less likely you are to see an old chevy. Salty winter roads eat chevys alive.
