| Transparent Paint for Polycarbonate
I'm building a shortcourse truck for a bourbon lover. Custom brand decals will be used and I tought it would be neat to paint the body the color of bourbon which, of course, is kinda like the color of iced tea. I have just recently learned there is transparent paint availble to color clear plastic for tail lights and such. I assume that red and yellow (orange) are colors available for that application. Are there other colors? Who makes it or where can I find this type of transparent paint? I don't think Ritt dye will work because the decals need to be applied before the coating goes on. If it matters, this is an HPI Blitz kit. |

Spazstix makes a paint called hard anodized root beer which will be your best bet. The more coats you spray the darker it will get or spray less and the lighter it will be. Right now they are out of stock but they should have it in stock soon, just email them and they will give you a for sure answer. here is the link to the paint. My FWD Dragster |

Ok...got it. That is not transparent (but it looks great). I am looking for a color which you can actually see through like a tinted clear.

Here's what I would do...pick up Tamiya Trans Red - PS-37, Trans Orange - PS-43, and Smoke PS-31. Cut about 6 or 8 pieces of lexan scrap into small pieces, about 2" sq. Wheel cut-outs work good for this. These are instock at Tower Hobbies Spray 4 pieces with varying layers of red, and 4 pieces with orange. Try smoke on 1 of the reds and 1 of the oranges to see if it gives the right tint. If not You can use the other pieces to work this and combine orange with the red if it doesn't seem brown enough. It's a good idea to use a sharpie on the outside to note color sequences and layers. Once you have the color tint you want, break out the body and go to town. Oh, I don't think you should rough up the inside of the body when applying clears. Hope this helps. |
