Default Painting a CUCV

I'm wanting to paint up my Blazer body, CUCV style (flat paint, on the outside). The local hobby shop warned me the Testors acrylics wouldn't stick. He recommended the Pactra paints for good adhesion. When I asked about flat paint on the outside he said the Tamiya paints 'might' hold.

Does anyone have experience with Tamiya paints? Durable enough for a trail truck?

i assume your talking about the proline lexan blazer body.
mask the windows on the outside. paint it with pactra black lexan paint.
let dry for 24-48 hours. then paint with any standard flat spray paint. does not have to be lexan paint. for camo krylon made a camoflauge series that was "ultra flat" with all the colors. brown, od green, black, and tan.

I have also got away with spraying it with adhesion promoter then using any topcoat you want.

"Bulldog" is the name of the adhesion promoter I have used in the past without any problems and if your looking for a stock color combo you can use duplicolor paint.

Tamiya also makes a flat clear for Lexan.

Don't let the $20 price for a can throw you off, this stuff is worth every penny. And one can would probably last most casual r/c enthusiasts a lifetime anyway. Split it up between your friends if you have any that are into r/c as well (otherwise they're just gonna want to "borrow" it!)

It will make damned near any paint stick to about any plastic surface. Good stuff...

I have painted a body with pactra black on the outsie but I didn't use anything on top of it to give it a flat look, it was flat already. Also if you paint the outside of a body, you can paint the inside silver or rusty tones so scratches will look they are in metal.

so just to clarify, use only the adhesion promoter right on the lexan? and don't use a base coat?

I mix parma faskolor to the shades I want and hit the outside of the body with it. I also will paint the inse=ide either a rust color or a silver color, then if any outside paint scrapes off it leaves "fresh steel" or a rusty metal look.

Yeah, most lexan paints dry to a flat look anyway so, unless you want an ultra-flat look, regular Faskolor works alright.

Bulldog is your answer but ALWAYS clean and scuff also , just a light scuff will do ,grey scotch brite pad , Bulldog will even make paint stick to chrome, great stuff I always use it , get it at your local auto body stores

Here's how it turned out.

FasChrome (silver, basically) on the inside, then FasBlack inside of that,

Tamiya paints, Olive Drab was mixed w/ FasWhite,
(got impatient, skipped the adhesion promoter)
The Tamiya flat brown and black were thinned for airbrushing, but otherwise unmixed.
