My boat paint job

Im working on a boat, project Lime Disease. It's just a basher, nothing real nice. Mainly something for my nephews and I to run around the lake and get schooled by the hardcore racers, lol. Either way here she is.

Rustoleum Lime Green paint on top of flat white. I hit the tips with black and added the masks for flames.

I did my best in detailing the driver/navigator and the cockpits.

Next up, Ive got to polish the bottom so it glides thru the water a little easier. Any tips or ideas are always welcomed."thumbsup"

The boat came out great!

For polishing, wet sand with with a very fine grit paper. I use 2000 for wet sanding that an auto body buddy gave me. Then lay 4 or so coats of clear, wet sanding between each.

When all is said and done wax and polish the sucker with a clear coat safe wax. "thumbsup"

Will do man. I've got to get some clear first. My can popped on me last night and shot clear coat all over my glasses and face. But I'll get her slicked up.

As for the the bottom. I'm just going off memory and you may want to research this but I don't think you want a super smooth bottom. Something about the waters surface tension and surface contact on a smooth bottom is greater than a rougher surface bottom. Something like the golf ball affect.

correct. when we raced offshore cats we actually sanded the bottom with 400 grit to help reduce surface tension

Re: My boat paint job

I've read on other forums where they say that between 300-ish and 400 grit is the way to go too. The boat was originaly white, so I may just sand the hull (what cant be seen from above water) down to the OG finish. Some say polishing is a waste of time and gives no improvement on speed. I did read however, that certain paints repell water, and those are the ones to use. So my flat finish is going to kill me in the water. Im going to sand her down with 400 and call it good.
